Onstar Phone App for iPhone and More

Currently OnStar comes standard for one year in most new GM vehicles such as Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, and GMC, but people who buy their GM car, truck or SUV in 2011 will receive an additional tool that improves the usability and productivity of the already valuable OnStar technology suite of services. Starting with the 2011 General Motors line-up, consumers will be able to download a powerful smart phone app that can control key functions of their vehicles. No longer will drivers be required to stand near their car in order to unlock doors, operate horns and lights and even start the ignition. Once the OnStar app has been downloaded and securely set up, users can control the previously stated functions from anywhere as long as they are connected to an online network.

GM suggests that the application would be helpful for people who have forgotten to lock their doors or who want to run the air conditioning before entering their car. Aside from security and comfort, the app can provide safety assurance by displaying vital diagnostic information such as fuel levels, tire pressure, vehicle tracking and much more. In addition, the app will have a button that will connect customers directly with OnStar customer service and roadside assistance.

Though the apps are not available yet, they are functional on the iphone and android operating systems. GMC says they are working aggressively to bring the applications to market while focusing on the needs and preferences of their customers. Learn more about OnStar
