OUCH! A Clouded Leopard Bit Me!

Ok, so I bet you guys are tired of hearing about these namby-pamby animals that bite me. So, how about an animal that is 50 pounds of muscle, has huge claws, and three inch long canines?!?!?!? Yes, my friends, that's right. I have been bitten by a clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa).

Clouded leopards in the wild normally don't encounter snow, but these two didn't seem to mind it.Clouded Leopard: Clouded leopards in the wild normally don't encounter snow, but these two didn't seem to mind it.

Clouded leopard you say? Hmmm, that sounds familiar. In fact, it sounds extraordinarily like the author's screen name!
My online moniker does indeed refer to this fantastic animal. Clouded leopards live in the rainforest of SE Asia, where they spend most of their time in the trees. They are excellent at hunting deer, pigs, birds and monkeys. The clouded leopards that I helped hand-raise apparently all thought I looked enough like a monkey that I might be good to eat. As young adults they enjoy playing "chase-the-rope", honing their hunting skills. However, chase-the-rope quickly changes into "jump-on-the-keeper-dragging the rope", hence, the biting. To learn more about this incredibly rare cat, visit www.cloudedleopard.org. There's even video of them playing with a keeper in Thailand (not me).

A Clouded Leopard can Bit

Sure, a clouded leopard can bit a person. A clouded leopard is much bigger than a domestic cat.

A Ken Light Approved Link!

Thanks Ken! I think I will put a little flashing sign next to my link that says "Ken Light Approved". BTW, I read your article, and I liked it. It made me laugh and cringe.

Another wonderful crash tale

Another wonderful crash tale from our pal Launchpad. Nicely done once again. And, I should point out because I recently posted on their use, perfect use of a link in your article. "Thank you for driving carefully through the villiage." That's what the sign says.

Scientific name

Neofelis nebulosa means new cat with clouds, something like that. Neo=new felis=cat (as you rightly inferred). Nebulosa refers to clouds. Nebula comes from the same root. :-) I know some stuff about animals... www.xomba.com/how_to_become_a_zookeeper

Cat from another galaxy?

Gotta love that name, Neofelis nebulosa--sounds like it should mean 'new cat from another galaxy' or something. ;-)
