Ouija Board: Toy or Spirit Portal?

The Ouija board, also known earlier in time as “the talking board,” has fascinated people since the 1800’s. Many believe the Ouija opens a portal to dialogue with spirits of both a positive and negative nature. Sold and peddled today as a glow-in-the-dark toy by Parker Brothers; is the Ouija board a precarious tool for spirit communication or just the users psyche playing tricks?

The Ouija board is many things, but a toy is not one of them. Having witnessed the bizarre messages brought forth on the board, whether instinctive or imagined, was enough to realize there exists danger in tinkering with this so-called toy.

Teens Frightened By Ouija Board Messages

A few years back in summer, a bored group of local teenagers started messing with the Ouija board and became obsessed with not only asking it questions, but also the answers they received. However, it was all fun and games until the messages turned malicious and threatening.

If people believe, the answers from the Ouija are simply an extension of their unconscious thoughts; these teens were most likely bringing forth their own turmoil, which they were all going through in one form or another. Collectively, they were a volcano waiting to erupt.

Some of the messages this group (boys and girls) received, tied in with distrust, disloyalty, deceit and insensitivity among the friends. In support of the Ouija board and the users unconscious thought theory, this scenario was specifically what was taking place among the group of friends.

Did the wounding messages come from an unkind spirit, who wanted to stir up trouble; or was it just the teen’s anxious thoughts coming through? It may have easily been the later, but that certainly does not explain messages of a man’s death by guillotine many centuries ago, or a message that one of the friends had to die.

This message was enough finally, to make the teens afraid. They realized they were messing with something that may be a bit more powerful than they first believed. Someone made the wise decision to put the Ouija board in the trash and take an oath never to touch one again.

While two females tossed, the Ouija board into the trash receptacle outside, the scrub tree that hung over the trash container began to shake forcefully. It was a perfectly still October night in Massachusetts and there was not a bit of wind or the slightest breeze.

It appears that something unseen, however, was protesting the Ouija board’s demise in the trash can. Is the Ouija board a toy or spirit communication portal? You be the judge!

I remember...

I remember when I was a teen that my nephew and I used one once for fun.  I can't remember what happened except that I was surised when the thing began moving around from one place to another on the board.  After we put it up that time I have never touched one again and usually don't even admit to knowing for sure what it is.  I definitely don't know if it was real or what.

ouija boards are no toy, and can cause more harm than good

Hi. Just wanted to stop by and thank you for your comments on my Connect with your Angels article. :)

How thoughtful :)

As per your ouija board article...wow! I defininitely believe ouija boards are no toy, and can cause more harm than good in any case.

I couldn't believe you've written about something that was so close to an incident that happened in my teenage years. Spooky. And what's even stranger, is when we tried to throw our ouija board in the trash, it somehow ended up on the table the very next day. So of course, we threw it out again, and yet it still ended up on the table again the next day. We were quite upset about the whole ordeal and ended up burning the board to rid ourselves of it and have since never used one again. Anytime someone asks me about using a ouija board, I calmly but firmly tell them to never open that 'can of worms' so to speak. Some things are better left alone, no matter the temptation.

I sincerely hope if anyone who reads this is contemplating the usage of such a thing to please reconsider and stay as far away from a ouija board as possible...there is never any good that can come from it's usage.

Thanks for posting!

I believe completely......

My grandmother told me about one time using this board. It was her and a couple friends and they asked a few questions but stopped when things started happening in the woman's home she was at.

Her kitchen cabinets opened up and the dished started falling out. Not just a couple either. I mean they just kept falling. My grandmother was so freaked out that she left and I believe never went back into that house.

Now, personally, I tried using one when I was younger with no success. But do I believe, yes!   I have different experiences.  I am very "open" as some would call it. Since I was a child I could see and hear things that were obviously not there. No, I'm not a nut. But spirits, or ghosts, or whatever you like to call them are out there and I have experienced more than my share of their "fun".

See my bytes for a few of my stories.

P.S. I also live in Mass so your story hit home a little more.

Thanks for the Comments!

Thanks you all for the supportive comments! I appreciate it!  :)

Ouija boards are dangerous

The Roman Catholic Church forbids the use of Ouija boards for the reasons that you mentioned. I'm glad that you pointed out that they are not benign.

I have heard strange stories over the years about Ouija...

Hard to tell what is true and what is not.  My own mother-in-law had some strange experiences....strange enough to keep me away from anything like this.  Great article.

Spirits

Thanks for the timely and  scary article. It's enoug to steer me away from any thoughts of buying one to mess around with at haloween.

Portal

I believe that when we invite spirits to communicate with us, we sometimes get what we ask for. Teenagers don't know how to filter out the good messages from the bad message, though. And children tend to believe what they hear (when it comes from anywhere other than their parents) and therefore believe that the messages are well-intended.

Then again, as you point out in the article, oftentimes messages come from within.
