Palin Resigning as Alaska's Governor: A July 4 Bombshell: Yahoo!

The title of a Yahoo! article released on July 4 is "Palin Resigning as Alaska Governor". The first 2 sentences are significant: "Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin surprised supporters Friday and announced she is resigning office at the end of the month - THROWING INTO QUESTION whether she would seek a run for the White House in 2012". The key phrase is "throwing into question". So Palin is trying to take the "pitbull", "gotcha" and "You betcha" show from Alaska to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue? How can she wcwn think about this, WHEN SHE CAN'T EVEN COMPLETE ONE TERM AS GOVERNOR OF THE MOST REMOTE STATE IN THE COUNTRY?

The second sentence is also revealing: "The news rattles a Republican Party plagued by setbacks in recent weeks INCLUDING EXTRAMARITAL AFFAIRS DISCLOSED BY TWO OTHER 2012 PRESIDENTIAL PROSPECTS NEVADA SEN. JOHN ENSIGN AND SOUTH CAROLINA GOV. MARK SANFORD". Palin joins two other prominent Republicans engulfed in controversy.

Another significant sentence in this report is "Palin hastily called a news conference at her home in suburban Wasilla, giving such short notice that few reporters actually made it to the announcement". This now seems like a fundamental characteristic of Sarah Palin. She often does things "hastily" or without thinking about what she's doing.

Palin started off: "Many just accept THAT LAME DUCK STATUS and they hit the road. They draw a paycheck. They kind of milk it. AND I'M NOT GOING TO PUT ALASKANS THROUGH THAT". Since when did Sarah Palin do something to serve the people? "And I'm not going to put Alaskans through that?" So, Palin actually believes that she is capable of being president after flopping badly in the 2008 campaign by making flippant and irrevelant remarks.

Palin's spokesman David Murrow denied that this was any sort of "grand finale" even though it is inconceivable that Palin would come close to challenging Obama after such a disastrous performance in 2008. Specifically, Murrow says that "She's looking forward to SERVING THE PUBLIC outside the governor's chair". If Palin is truly intent on "serving the public", she certainly shouldn't planning a run for the White House. She should head for late night TV WHERE THERE WILL PROBABLY MORE JOKES ABOUT HER THAN HER MAKING THE JOKES.

Political experts and commentators also raised their eyebrows when told of Palin's abrupt resignation announcement. According to Larry Sabbato of the University of Virginia, "It's absolutely bizarre and I THINK IT ELIMINATES HER from SERIOUS contention for the presidency in 2012". Sabato is calling Palin's decision (or perhaps Palin herself?) "bizarre" and "I think it eliminates her from serious contention" is a pretty damning statement as well.

On Twitter, Palin reportedly said that she wanted to implement "a positive change outside government", adding on the social networking site Twitter that "We'll soon attach info not to seek re-election...this is in Alaska's best interest (and) MY FAMILY'S HAPPY...It's good. Stay tuned". "this is in Alaska's best interest and MY FAMILY'S HAPPY". "this is in Alaska's best interest" makes it seem as if Palin couldn't handle being governor. "my family's happy"...about what? If her family is happy about the fact that SHE RESIGNED, perhaps Palin shouldn't even consider a White House bid. She should just stay at home and be a wife, mother and grandmother.

According to Richard McBeath, a veteran political scientist at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, "ALASKA IS AN ISOLATED STAGE FROM WHICH TO OPERATE IF YOU WANT TO FIGURE (prominently) IN AMERICAN NATIONAL POLITICS. I don't know what she has in mind, PERHAPS SOME RADIO OR TV SHOW. There are opportunities for her, I'm sure". Here's another political scientist calling on Palin to start a radio program or TV show. She should certainly consider going to Saturday Night Live permanently, since she has already made several appearances there EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS THE SUBJECT OF MOST OF THE PRANKS AND JOKES INSTEAD OF HER MAKING THE JOKES.

"After all Rush Limbaugh is getting old and cranky AND THE AIRWAVES WOULD BENEFIT FROM A NEW PRESENCE. She certainly is photogenic AND THAT IS HER AREA OF EXPERIENCE. So I would say IT'S A RESPONSE TO OPPORTUNITY instead of 'getting out before they get you'. Sarah Palin is much more suitable for TV and radio talk shows (she can either make the corny jokes or the jokes can be about her) than a politician.

Palin continued: "THIS DECISION HAS BEEN IN THE WORKS FOR A WHILE". Well, we didn't know about this until recently.

"This decision comes after much consideration and prayer. Finally, I polled the most important people in my life, my kids, where the count was unanimous. Well, in response to asking, 'Hey, you want me to make a positive difference and fight for all our children's future from outside the governor's chair?' It was four years and one 'Hell yeah' and the 'Hell yeah' sealed it". Palin is a blabber mouth. Her legacy will be defined by "pit bull", "gotcha", "you betcha" and "hell yeah" instead of anything significant. It also seems like Palin doesn't know how to use formal standard English. We must also wonder if her husband Todd Palin is important to her as she doesn't mention his name in this statement.

According to Fred Malek, a Republican strategist who has advised Palin for about a year, Palin is "really unhappy about the way her life is going". Palin is very selfish. Notice the words "her life". This suggests that Palin is putting herself over and above country and party.

Specifically, Malek said "She felt that the pressures of the job COMBINED WITH HER FAMILY OBLIGATIONS and the desire and demands to help other Republican candidates (?) led her to decide not to run again. Once that decision was made, why not do it now and let the lieutenant governor take over and get a head start on his re-election?" This is the 'serving the people' image that Palin wants to portray herself as, when in fact she is just as selfish as other politicians or dare we say it, the politician with the biggest and most inflated ego of them all.

Finally, Palin claims that "I cannot stand here as your governor AND ALLOW THE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND ALL THAT TIME GO TO WASTE JUST SO (that) I CAN HOLD THE TITLE OF GOVERNOR". Notice "...allow the millions of dollars and all that time..." Is Palin preaching fiscal responsibility now?
