Palin Will not get my Vote
Palin Will not get my Vote
I have completely lost any twinkling of admiration that I might of had for Sarah Palin. It seems everyday more and more stories/issues are coming to light that are very damning. First there is the scandal with her trying to get her ex-brother in-law fired. Before that she openly tried have the town librarian censor books. Then, at a later date, she tried to have her fired. Now she is being called a racist for some comments she may have made about Obama and Clinton. I have a lot of respect for John McCain and might have even voted for him but I can not in good faith vote for Palin.
Here are some of the stories

McCain is Clueless
My favorite quote (in the second article) is:
"But it was enough to get McCain, who is mostly unobservant of the world around him anyway, to think Palin has a reputation as being “anti-pork”."
How much vetting did McCain do when he selected Palin. My guess is not much - But then again, my Republican friends just love The Lipsticked Pit Bull and can't think of a better choice. I guess McCain was not trying to impress open-minded people - He was just trying to validate his close-mindedness with his minions...
Anne Kilkenny letter about Palin
Here is a link to a letter than a resident of Palin's town and a former librarian there circulated to her friends. It's now been widely distributed.

Just a few problems
Just a few problems with your sources...
The Boston Herald article admits that there is little, if any evidence to verify the claims. And the librarian in question was appointed by the former three-term mayor of Wasilla at the time. Also, according to the story, Palin replaced five different political positions - not just the librarian. This happens quite frequently when new leaders are elected at city, state, and federal levels of office.
The laprogressive.com article is quite laughable. Not only does the author repeatedly use unnamed sources and hearsay as the core of the story, but the claim about Palin being racist against native Alaskans is absurd...her husband is part Yup'ik, which is native Alaskan. When you have an author using sources that "refuse to be identified" or "can't reveal their identity" or "are afraid of retribution, so they do not want to be named" - then you can bet that many of the claims are entirely unverified and most likely fabricated...especially when they are stories that cast somebody in a negative light for political reasons. (Sort of like when Republicans claim that Obama is a "closet Muslim" - it's sheer stupidity.)
The Washington Post story is the most credible, but Monegan himself says that he wasn't pressured by Palin. And the accusations against Trooper Wooten were verified, but Monegan says he had no reason for disciplinary action. The report also says that Wooten had a clean record. None of it adds up. The only thing that is consistent is the fact that Monegan claims he did not get pressured from Sarah Palin. We'll just have to see what happens there.
If these stories are what you are basing your decision on, then I must say I am disappointed with your selection of "news" articles.

a look into some unmentioned facts
First there is the scandal with her trying to get her ex-brother in-law fired.
This brother in law. Was convicted of killing a moose out of season. That is called poaching. I call it stealing. He was caught drinking and driving the police vehicles while on duty, and he told his father in law at the time he was going to kill him. That is domestic violence. This guy should not have a gun.
This guy should have been fired and Monegan was duly fired for not firing this guy and allowing good old boy policies to be the rule of his command.
Mrs. Palin did not want to work with thugs and bullies who use alcohol on duty, abuse their power to scare and intimidate and threaten lives of the older and weaker or who steal wild life out of their natural habitat during the off season. That is called poaching it hurts the young by taking their parents and hurts the balance of nature the forestry division works so hard to preserve. That alone should have gotten him fired.
This guy was a mess but is still a police officer today in Alaska. I believe if after this ethics committee is done and this policeman is still on the force, that would be the injustice and abuse of power here.

Palin investigation
The question of whether the cop threatened Palin's family is one of the he said/she said aspects of this matter.
Fortunately, the results of the investigation will be due in October and we'll have to hope that at least some of the questions about the matter will be answered.
Sarah Palin Chronicles: The Terminator
I would never have voted for McCain, but adding Palin to the mix was completely beyond the pale (har, har). The woman has more skeletons in her closet than Stephen King. I believe that after the initial obligatory fifteen minutes of fame period, her appeal will mercifully die off (except for the Evanjellies, of course, who only care about her medieval social agenda).
Your statement that Palin fired the city librarian, WhatUP,
is not true. In the source article you provided, it says that Palin did ask for the librarian's resignation, but did not receive it. The librarian continued to work for the city until she resigned at the beginning of Palin's second term.
Also, the article does not say that Palin's request for the resignation had anything to do with banning or not banning books from the library. Since several other people were asked to resign at the same time, it could have been for any number of reasons.
I am not supporting the banning of books. I just don't like to see unfounded rumors being set forth as truth. There are enough unfavorable true stories about most current political candidates that there should be no need to resort to untruthful ones.
She tried
She tried to have her fired but the locals rallied to support the librarian. I see two issues here:
One Palin tried to Censor books. I cannot support anyone who does that.
Two She was not in touch enough with her community to know that this woman was well liked. Rather than coming to an amicable resolution she decided to throw her weight around.
Yes you are that the attempted firing was not in direct relationship with the book banning. But at the same time that is the beginning of the fire.
In all fairness to Governor Palin, WhatUp, don't you think
you should go back to your original post and correct the statement that Mayor Palin fired the city librarian? That statement, as you admit in your response to my earlier comment, is not true.
Whether or not you like Governor Palin or whether or not you intend to vote for her, untrue information should never be presented as truth. Besides misleading those who tend to believe everything they read on the internet, it also ruins your own credibility as a writer.
Done
Ok ok I did it. Although, I personally believe that Palin tired to fire her because of the book banning.
Good for you, wHatup.
Now, you are still letting us know how you feel about the Governor without changing the facts to do it. Great job.
Sarah Palin's hockey rink mess
Palin is being hailed as a good executive, but many of her actions have been not as competent as her supporters have claimed.
It's been said that the town had a balanced budget when she took, but that it had a large (for a small town) deficit when she left.
And the Wall Street Journal today has this article about how Palin got a hockey rink/sports facility built in town-- a great idea, except the town started building roads and putting in utilities for the facility before it had secured title to the land.
"The misstep led to years of litigation and at least $1.3 million in extra costs for a small municipality with a small budget. What was to be Ms. Palin's legacy has turned into a financial mess that continues to plague Wasilla."

don't wear your self out wiggling too fast...
We still have a couple of months to go before the election.
Ever heard of the big dig? I wonder who's town that fiasco happened in? Hmmmm.
I believe there are many liberals who are afraid of being defeated in this upcoming election and rightfully so.
Do you know what happens when a worm gets mad? He wiggles faster.
It is something to watch the liberal left wiggle with issues driven by emotion and wishful thinking of how bad one might be.

How McCain Chose Palin
I couldn't figure that one out either, so this is what I figure happened..it seems the most reasonable explanation of how she got selected.

Wiggling?
Eggs, you're the only person I know who would call the Wall Street Journal "liberal"!
I was reporting a legitimate news story posted by a respected publication, based on research with people having firsthand knowledge of the situation. If you want to believe the Journal is a "liberal" publication out to get Sarah Palin, you're welcome to do so.
The Big Dig? I don't know what you mean by "whose town," but it wasn't Obama's or Biden's, if that's what you're implying. I don't know who was mayor of Boston then, if that's what you're suggesting, but Mitt Romney was governor of Massachusetts during part of the Big Dig years (you don't think the city of Boston was totally responsible for building that project, do you?)
I'm not familiar with the behavior of worms.... are you? Or are you just making up that bit about wiggling when getting mad? I didn't know worms had the brainpower to feel anger.
Eggs, you're getting as hard to understand as MythMan!
You Would Find More-Supportive Palin-News, but ... Lemme Guess..
Is there any? If we were a news-"source," I would ask you if you 'looked' for any good press for Sarah; but--since we're just a wise echo of news--'that you would HAVE to look to find it' tells you who the media is voting for!

Well, you can still write in Elizabeth Kucinich ...

Roseanne COULD run this country better than Sarah
And so could most of us lefties, I suspect. And Sarah is certainly no more qualified for the job than the much more beauteous and younger Elizabeth Kucinich, so why not just go for the hottest chick while we're at it? That's good old-fashioned American sexism at its very best!
One problem with Elizabeth, though, is that she's probably not an American citizen. :(

... and by 'doin`,' I of course mean that Elizabeth Kucinich is ... "Cleaning the Laundry of" a Senator.)

Elizabeth is an American citizen by injection?
Just like my mother used to claim she was Italian by injection.
