Parenting: Bullying in schools
posted April 3, 2009 - 4:24pmSchool bullying is not uncommon and it happens often. You should assess your children for this problem. Do you know how they're dealing with peer pressure at school? High School is the toughest time that a kid can get through. I remember back in High School, it was a nightmare for me. The kids would tease and make fun of you or make cruel comments about you or your clothing. There would be cliques that made you feel like you're not with the in crowds. High School is not that great of a time and for some they end up committing suicide even. Lately on the News, a 14 year old committed suicide inside a High School bathroom over bullying. This was in California. What do you think about this child? A lot of people have expressed their sympathy for this child and his family but sympathy is too late.
You should make sure that your child is not at risk for teen bullying and other peer pressure at school. High School is a time where they really need your counseling. I remembered High School was a dread for me. I was always bother by that mean, pretty girl who has everything. I was bother by one the High School girl who was pretty but was mean. She made fun of the way I walk. Every time she sees me she would laugh because I walked like a cat. I later transfer to another High School because I couldn't stand the kids at that particular High School. There were too much clique going on and it interfere with my happiness and also a lot of other students too.
My siblings also had some problems in High School. I think that everyone would agree that High School is a tough thing for kids because they have no clue about anything yet. They're just beginning to understand the world around them. Therefore, it's this time that you must counsel your children so that they will know how to handle themselves in a crowd of uncaring kids. Your children could suffer a lot if they are not handling it well. Kids are kids and your child will need a method to cope with High School life. You play a big part in helping them become a strong person who believe in himself and know how to ignore the crowds. The best thing is to ignore the little comments and the little attitudes. They can't do anything to you. You just need your education and then go home but don't get too involve with groups and clique because it'll turn into a big problems later on. Having friends are great but it could turn into something bad. Friends outside of school can be better and more healthy than friends from school. Try to have a life away from the campus. School bullying happens but you need to be careful and not be a victim. Parents need to counsel their children about teen bullying.
