The Passing of wHATUP

The Passing of wHATUP

It is with extreme sorrow that I am annoucing the passing of wHATUP. His death has been a long time in coming but at the same time seems rather quick.

It has only been within the last few months that I have outgrown the pen name. There were a couple of reasons I had to put wHATUP to rest.

1. It was a stupid name anyway. What am I a budweiser commercial?

2. If I got one more "what up wHATUP" message in my inbox I was going to heave my computer in the direction of Jacksonville.

3. I am really trying to become a writer and not just a blogger. I just couldn't bare the thought of a potential agent/publisher/whatever looking at my writings here and seeing the screen name wHATUP associated with it. It just screamed of someone that is unprofessional.

4. With the new site I wanted a new start. This kinda going along with #3. With the new site I really want to make a concerted effort to be a fiction writer and I think using my real name is the first step.

So, so long wHATUP, it has been great knowing you but you out lived your usefulness - adios!

Bob Newhart

While I'm waxing nostalgic..remember the Bob Newhart Show spinoff "Newhart" when he opened the small country inn..the Stratford Inn? I still remember cracking up when the three local brothers showed up..How many times have you said or heard: "Hi, I'm Darrell and this is my brother Darrell and my other brother Darrell.."

I'll do the thinnin' around here, Baba Looey

Your comment title reminded me of one of my favorite cartoons. Quick Draw McGraw..he always used to say "Iiiii'llll do the thinnin' around here Baba Looey!" whenever his faithful sidekick had an idea.. KABONNNNNNGGG!!! (I'm thinnin' about changing my name to 'El Kabong')

The Passing of wHATUP

wHATUP is a fun name but agree that it does not sound as professional if you are trying to expand a writing career. I like your writing so here at Xomba, I would read your work no matter what your pen name is. Marketing your writing in other avenues might not be so easy as wHATUP though. It is very interesting to learn why people choose their pen names, stage names, or usernames on various web sites. I saw a blurb on xomba a while ago to a site that lists thousands of pen names and the real names of authors. Very interesting. http://www.xomba.com/do_you_know_your_favorite_author%E2%80%99s_real_name On another note, I will say the same thing as I said on Scott Weiler's article "I AM Dying...". You two scared the dickens out of me!!! I have been away for a week. The first thing I noticed when logging into Xomba was "I AM Dying" in the highest rated list and then "The Passing of wHATUP" just below it. What a sigh of relief to see that that article wasn't written by wHATUP, nor was Scott dying and that only wHATUP's pen name died. Not me

No MyKarma is not me (at least not that I know anyway). Mamamia is a great name - shows a love of the supergroup ABBA. And that you are super old and wise being born in 1907 and all. Or maybe there are 6 other Mamamia's here? Or that your Mia Northwest's mama. In any case its pretty cool! :) Visit my homepage here

And in case you are not - I feel you should join and contribute here on a regular basis! Great comment from one just stopping by. Normally they just say "heyYYY" or "FuuurrrsSTT" or "WWatch This". And a trip down Darrell's writing will exactly be "quirky, humorous, serious and quite mysterious - its a promise. BTW, what does Mamamia07 suggest to you (MyKArma)? My Xomba Page

Screw first impressions...

I just had to create an account and reply to this. I'm not sure exactly how I found this site, let alone this post. I have to say kudos to you for doing what you think is right for you. I can't say that I've read anything else of yours - or anyone else's material on this site, for that matter - so I can't say I like or dislike any of your writing. However, I say make some waves. If a reader's first impression of you is based solely on your user-name, and they refuse to read any of your material, then so-be-it. They just need to go back to kindergarten and learn not to judge a book by it's cover. That was a very important message to me, as it has helped me through the years to judge people on their personality and actions, rather than their appearance. Just because someone thinks someone is of a certain stereotype based on their appearance absolutely does NOT mean they are of that stereotype. Yes, those stereotypes do exist, but it's the people that challenge those stereotypes that I want to pay attention to. Those are the people who will change the world for the better, encouraging the young people of the world to embrace change, and look beyond the outer shell to see what really makes the world turn. As for your previous name, 'wHATUP', it says plenty about you. It says you are young at heart, have a bit of a sense of humor about you, and yet just want to say "What up?!" You speak your mind through your writing, as do we all, and you're just putting it out there right at the beginning; wHATUP!? As for the capitalization, it's a common mistake many of us make every now and then when we leave the Caps Lock on and try to capitalize the first letter. Leaving it that way just shows that you have a quirkiness about you (or you're just inattentive or lazy), and I'd welcome a look into your mind through your writing. It says to me that I'd have quite a trip that's quirky, humorous, serious, and even a bit mysterious. Just trying to find out about the person behind the writing would be a welcome endeavor to me.
