Pearl Harbor Observance
Today's Pearl Harbor Day commemoration, remembering the 66th anniversary of the Dec. 7, 1941 bombing attack on Pearl Harbor was attended by close to 50 survivors. In that Pearl Harbor attack, the US Navy suffered its greatest defeat with twenty-one ships were sunk or damaged.
American deaths totaled 2,390.
The National Park Service and the US Navy hosted a joint memorial ceremony commemorating the 66th anniversary of the attack at Naval Station Pearl Harbor's Kilo Pier this morning. Admiral Robert F. Willard, the commander of US Pacific Fleet, served as the keynote speaker.
At 7:55 a.m., the exact moment of the attack, a moment of silence was observed.
