The People of Walmart
posted October 5, 2009 - 10:50pmI've been getting emails from a few friends of mine lately with photographs and the link to a website I had never heard of before. I have to completely admit that my first glances of the photographs made me laugh, in fact some of the pictures made me laugh a lot. The link next to the photos was a link to the website where the photos originated from. The website address is peopleofwalmart.com. Curiosity led me to click on the link.
I was suprised to learn that this is a website dedicated to collecting pictures of people who, let's just say.....are not looking their best and are shopping at Walmart. This website actually persuades users to take snapshops of random people and things that they see during their Walmart shopping excursions. The people and things must be out of the ordinary, zany, crazy, ugly, weird, hillarious, etc. Peopleofwalmart.com even awards Walmart gift cards to users who have submitted the best photo.
I have been trying to figure out what I personally think about this website. Like I've already admitted the pictures are really funny. Some of the pictures make me feel utterly embarassed for the unknowing person in front of the camera. That's another thing, I'm not sure that these "victims" even know they have a photo posted of them on the internet.
The People of Walmart website has a comment area marked "love" and also a comment area marked "hate." The site has gotten a lot of love, but has also gotten a lot of hate. I have to agree with some of the comments left on the sight which mentioned how insane it is the way some people are willing to present themselves in public. I also agree that Walmart tends to "lure" in some of the most off the wall types of people. I do not agree with, nor do I find necessary some of the horribly rude titles some of the photos have been given. To each their own I say, but watch out! You never know who may have a camera phone on hand.

I view that website daily just to make sure I'm not on it. Some of the people almost need to be there while others you feel sorry for and wait for the "post every random thing that might be the least bit funny or embarassing on the internet" craze to be over with.
