Phil Jackson: Title-Winning Player and Coach, Zen Master, and Author
posted June 5, 2008 - 10:50pmPhil Jackson is best known for winning NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers. In fact, he is the second-winningest NBA coach, with nine NBA titles overall.
He also won an NBA championship as a player with the New York Knicks on their title-winning 1973 team, which also featured such standouts as Walt "Clyde" Frazier, Dave DeBusschere, Willis Reed, Bill Bradley, and Earl "the Pearl" Monroe.
Jackson acquired the nickname "the Zen Master" because one of his favorite books is the 1970s classic "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance," and because of his fondness for Easter and Native American philosophies.
