Philosophy of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib

Sri Guru Nanak Sahib preached a simple philosophy in unique way known as Sikhism. He preached the acceptance of human life as gift of God, reflecting the divine being and divine purpose. Thus, he brought worldly structures like family and social as well as cultural and economic systems within the realm of religious activity.

As per Sri Guru Nanak Sahib religion is not a set of rules & regulations to be followed but a practical way of life. He says: human body is the palace, the temple, and the house of God. He supported marriage and family and rejected the dogma of leaving the family and in pursuit of religious goals. Sri Guru Nanak believed -without service there cannot be Love for God. He had deep sympathy for common man and protested against any kind of oppression.

Equality of Mankind was the hallmark of his teachings. He shunned distinction based on caste, creed or sex in the practice of spirituality. He established the tradition of Langar or free community kitchen, emphasizing true fellowship and equality. These are some of the views of Sri Guru Nanak Sahib :

  • God, The Ever lasting Truth is Supreme & Highest.
  • Of all the Virtues, Truthful Living is the Highest
  • Women be treated with due respect, for, were it not for women where would have great men come from?
  • Know men by their worth, not by their caste creed or title.
  • There is no caste, creed in the nether world. Only merit and truthful living is the criteria reckoned of worthy honor.
  • Living uncontaminated amid worldly temptations is the secret of religion.

The Glory & Teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev are known and revered deeply in the hearts of sikhs living world wide.
