Placenta Abruption

In 1999 I suffered a Placenta Abruption at 37 weeks gestation. Placenta Abruption (also known as abruptio placentae) is a complication of pregnancy, it occurs when the placental lining separates from the uterus of the pregnant mother. It is the most common cause of late pregnancy bleeding. It occurs in as many as 1% of pregnancies world wide. Death of the fetus can occur between 20 to 40% percent of the time, depending on the degree of the separation. Placental Abruption can also cause severe complications and even death to expecting mothers.
