Placido Domingo World Record Holder for the Longest Standing Ovation in History Receives First $1 million Birgit Nilsson Award

Opera star Placido Domingo is the first person in ever to recieve the $1 million Birgit Nilsson Award. Placido is known for being the World Record holder for the longest standing ovation in history which lasted for over 80 minutes. He also holds the record for the most curtain calls. Brigit Nilsson chose Placido to be the first recipient of the award over 10 years ago but asked that it remain a secret until after her death. Placido stated that the award " is comparable to the Nobel Prize in Music".
