Poetry and Essay Contest for High School Students

Hey Everyone!

I just wanted to give those of you who are teachers, parents, or even students a little heads up on this great opportunity.

The option to enter a poetry or essay contest was open to all of my students, and even other kids in the school. I printed out a flyer and posted it outside my door. I had many students choose to enter, mostly with poems. It is a free contest. I did have on student decide to write a non-fiction essay for the contest.

I got a letter in the mail saying that the essay was going to be published, and that the girl who wrote it is automatically entered in a contest to win thousands of dollars in prizes. For our small school, this was quite an honor and quite an accomplishment for the ninth grader who wrote the essay.

The contest is open to students in grades 4-12. There are thousands of dollars in prizes. Many articles and poems will be chosen to be printed in a book representing what is important to students right now. The contest is pretty much ongoing, with deadlines every few months.

Teachers--if you get at least five students published (probably not so hard in larger schools), you get a free copy of the book! Plus, there are awesome lesson plans on the website.

Students--it looks GREAT on applications for National Honor Society and college, as well as other things that require you to go above and beyond to set yourself apart from others.

I probably sound like some kinda spokesman for the website, but really, I'm not. I'm just an excited teacher who wants to share a great opportunity that I found.

You can find everything you need to know on the website. You may enter contest pieces on the website, or find an address to mail them to.

So how do you enter? Here:
