Points For Plagerism

Points For Plagerism

In my 20 years of writing and editing, I've had the pleasure to come across many people in the publishing world who were true professionals. I never had reason to question their quality of workmanship. Editors were mentors to their writers; sometimes it was the other way around. They wouldn't scavenge from each other to gain ideas, strength, or popularity. They were professionals in the true sense of the word.

But, in my short time of splicing a few words here and there to submit to this miniscule blog site in my spare time, I've met at least one editor here who could turn my ideas around completely. How interesting. How ironic. As we progress in time, we're supposed to better ourselves. Afterall, we have better technology, better means of education, better means of communications. However, there's still the editor who will blatantly ride the back of a writer to gain a little glee for themselves -- in this case, to add a few more points to their total credits, or to harass another blogger for whatever psychological reasonings they may have.

Writers -- whether for blogs, or newspapers, or magazines, or broadcast -- are bound by copyright laws. That's a true professional. Yet, at least one editor here believes that she's above that. That's right: Antonia Dwells, matron of mega points (all 2732 of them) claims the following (and I quote):

"Words are words, and humor is...humour?
In the blogosphere, I shall P-L-A-G-I-A-R-I-Z-E
till the end of the world."

First off, "till" is spelled wrong. The actual spelling is 'til. "Till" means to till the soil. 'Til is a shortened version of the word "until". Now, if she did not plagerize so much, maybe she would know how to write on her own power.

Plagerism is a crime. It is stealing. And make no mistake, any editor who is a TRUE editor would know this. And there is no one on this side of Heaven who can steal another writer's ideas with such gusto and call themselves an "editor" or a "writer"... and we give these plagerists points?

I'll take the green stamps, please!

but I don't think Xomba's giving them out. In the meantime, welcome to the madhouse, Billy! I think part of the problem is that the first contest is for most points. This makes sense for a start-up site so it can get lots of content quickly. But it's maybe leading to a lot of Xombytes and comments being thrown up (um, pun intended) quickly to accumulate points, leading to not the most well-thought-out content. I'm hoping Xomba won't run points-oriented prizes in the future, because I think it's quality and not quantity that will make Xomba a destination that people want to visit to read good stuff. Which hopefully means for views and clicks and money for all of us. Lately I'm seeing too much stuff that seems quickly put together and not so well written, with misspellings even in titles, etc. And what's with that Drum xombyte getting more views than nearly everything, including the Xomba Admin posts? Seems pretty fishy that a blatant press release is getting so many "views," but I guess there's nothing in the rules against having people click your Xombyte ad nauseum. Either that or Xombees really love reading the same press release over and over again... ;-)

Points 4 Twinkies

Yes, I think the points are like food stamps for Twinkies and such.

Points & Contests

The point system is being used as a measure for our current contest that ends on the 15th. Check out the contest section on the top left navigational box. We haven't decided what to do with the points after the contest ends. We might have another contest with them. We just don't know yet. We'll be announcing a new contest on Monday. I'll give you a few clues. 1 prize. $100 dollars. 2 weeks. You get to write something and send it to us. No point system. We got some other "bigger" contests coming down the road. Have a great weekend.

Amen!

Amen!

I just joined yesterday...

Do we get something for points? Also why throw stones at Xomba? I hope when I get big enough to find Xomba confining I just go quietly and find a more spacious blog site. Seriously, are the points like green stamps or what? If not who cares how many points A.D. has.

As Rodney said it best, "Please, can't we all just get along?" Thanks for reading my stuff, and please take a moment to rate my material and browse the ads.

Pickled Plums

Naw, she just got her plums pickled. There's been some truer plagiarism on this site, but even that isn't noteworthy. Basically, she thought I was poking fun at her post, when I had at that time been investigating idioms themselves. One thing led to another, and now she's no longer taking my phone calls, won't return my best china.
