Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radek Sikorski Discusses the US Missile Defense System and Russian-Georgia Conflict
In an interview with NPR's Alex Chadwick, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radek Sikorski talks about the comments made by the Russian Deputy Chief of General Staff that the U.S. missile defense program on Polish soil might provoke a nuclear attack per Russian military doctrine. Mr Sikorski also discusses the situation in Georgia and Russia's credibility.
The NATO Seretary General commented that the words of the Russian General were "pathetic" and "unhelpful." Poland has been very accomodating to the Russians by volunteering to allow Russia inspections and technical monitoring of the program. Sikorski also stated that "This rhetoric is unneccesary and unhelpful."
The Polish Foreign Affairs Minister also comments on the ongoing situation in Georgia and questions Russia's credibility in light of their recent statements that they would withdraw from Georgia.
