Poverty rate in the US

Poverty rate in the US

There are family that live in poverty in the US even though the US is a great country with so many opportunities for advancement. It's a surprise sometimes but there are many family that live in poverty and some are homeless. I used to work in Los Angeles California and the street of Hollywood and Sunset blvd. are filled with homeless living in cardboard boxes. Along the street in Hollywood are hundreds of men and women sleeping on the side of the street in the cold and the rain. It's a sad sight but it happens. I have wonder why these people have ended up that way. There are many reasons why people live in poverty and it's not unusual to have homeless people and people barely surviving. People should make an effort to stay above the poverty level and work hard to be prosperous instead of suffering with the many opportunities to succeed out there.

People that have many family members to support and they have a low income job could be living in poverty. My aunt has ten kids and she doesn't work as well as her husband. The children in her home tried to work hard but they have moved to the US from a foreign country and they're limited by the English language. Although her children don't speak enough English, they tried hard to work and make money. It's easy for a family like this to live in poverty since they're new to the US and they're limited by their language barrier. They also don't have an education and they don't have parents to support them. They live in a low cost state, NC, and that helps out a bit in reducing their cost. Family like this one are barely surviving and this is one of the cases of family living in poverty.

The US is still a great place with too many opportunities for people that really want to succeed. There are also many different types of businesses and some doesn't required you to speak English at all like work at China Town if you're Chinese. You can also open a business in China Town and you don't have to speak English. Each culture have their own town in most states for those that need to work but don't speak enough English. If you don't speak enough English you can make a strong effort to learn the language since it will help you get so many jobs later on in life and you will do better for yourself. Language is something that kept some family back from making more money. Family that have migrated from a foreign country usually have this problem. It's best that they dedicate a lot of time to learning the English language because it's not that difficult to learn English. It would take a year or two but you'll learn it.

You can do better than poverty if you commit yourself to improving yourself in education and skills. You would also need to have confidence and motivation to move on with your life. You should make effort to get help if you don't feel like working. There are people who don't have enough motivation to get out there into the working world. I have had some friends that were 26 years old and they have never hold a job and that's not the norm. I think that people live in poverty because there are some people in a family who don't work and they're relying on one or two other members to support them. I know a lot of friends who have older siblings who don't work and depends on the younger siblings to work and support them.

I think that poverty is something that you can escape if you're hard working and if you commit yourself to make more money. You can escape poverty if you put your head to it and we have seen successful stories over over in life like the true story that was made into the movie, " The Pursuit of Happiness." In this movie, a homeless man who sold blood in order to survive became a millionaire one day because he committed himself to make more money. You can do it if you put your mind to it and poverty is not the hardest thing to battle in life. There are worst things like cancer and people have no control over that. You have control over poverty and you can change your fate. There are chances for you to be self-employed as well if you know how to run a business and if you commit yourself to do better in life. When you run a business, you don't really need a college degree even. In the US, there're plenty of ways to make more money and you should make it a priority to improve your financial status every day. If you set goals, you will be albe to escape poverty in no time.

Overly Idealistic

Celanith First I was born an American and my roots are primarly American clear back to the American Indian. But also some European and others. In short I am pure 100% American. Education does not always net you being successful or keep you from poverty that is a huge myth. For some reason the USA will bend over backwards to help many immigrants but does little to help the natural born citizen of our nation. Discrimination is alive, well and overlooked and ignored in many occupations. It is blantant and defiant and it takes money to show there is discrimination. What kind, There is age discrimination for one, Religious for another and people tend to not hire the disabled if they can some how find a way around it or cover it up. Sure you can get a job if you lie, sell out your moral and religious values but it is not worth the price to do so and sooner or later it will catch up with you. That is one reason some are in poverty they will not cheat, lie or throw over their religious convictions not even for a job or money. Then there are people who are wiped out due to job loss and often a huge health problem that wipes them out financially and they lose everything. It is not the education that really gets you the job, there is often experience which is vital but more than that it is not what you know but WHO you know. Some people cannot sell blood due to health reasons of one type or another. My husband has a college education and a lot of post grad education and tons of experience, He has applied for 14 years for teaching jobs in several states. However he was hurt on the job prior to going to school to be a teacher and has limitations and specific needs on the job. The ONLY occupation many doctors, physical therapists, and others felt he could do was that of a school teacher. But he was 46 when he graduated and he quickly learned that if your over 40 there is a subtle unwritten code among schools not to hire anyone over 40 and more not to hire a disabled person. Prove it. Oh sure if we had the time and the money we could but it would take years and money we don't have. He subtitute teaches and they get NO benefits of any kind and to add insult to injury there is a FEDERAL law that says subtitute teachers cannot get unemployment benefits in the summers when laid off. All they can get are letters of reasonable assurance they MIGHT be hired back in the fall. This does not pay the bills and few will hire a disabled man to work just three months and fewer still are there jobs he can do. I have adult children all with education from college and only two have jobs and only one in the field he trained in and it took him four years to get there. My daughter has college education and experince so does her husband and both cannot find work now other than 6 weeks or 3 months then laid off an not in what they schooled and trained for. They have six children and live in a two bedroom shack that is poorly heated. It belongs to her FIL it is what they can afford. $350 a month. They get foodstamps and TANIF right now and go to foodbanks. They both are seeking job. Rich people sue the poor taking even more from them and often unjustly. It takes capital to make money or start a business and someone to back you and a lot of poor don't have anyone willing to invest or do that. Some cannot get loans due to owing debts like medical bills or credit cards they cannot pay because of the poverty it is a catch 22. Until you walk in someone's shoes and know excactly why they are in poverty you really don't know how hard some have tried and tried and tried and cry at night hurt, abused by a selfish system and greed of the moneyed who will step on you to get more and sell you out. Then there are those who are in poverty due to poor choices like drugs and alcohol abuse. So your idea that anyone can get out of poverty is overly idealistic and not reality.
