The Power of Adsense for Search
posted July 25, 2009 - 11:44amMost website owners overlook the power of Adsense for Search, focusing rather on Adsense for Content which while understandable can often mean that you miss out on the revenue boost that Adsense for Search can offer you. I am of course talking about Google's search option for website owners that enables them to generate revenue from ads displayed alongside search results from queries made via the Google search box featured on their websites. I've found that the cost per click can be much higher via the search feature than through ads displayed on my main website. Perhaps, one of the reason being that the array of ads available is much wider and potentially higher paying. I might be one of the few website owners, in fact, who earn a higher percentage of my Adsense revenue via Adsense for Search than via ads displayed on my website content pages.
Of course, there are optimization tips to enhance the benefits of having a Google search box on your website. I've personally found it hugely beneficial having the search box at the top of my webpages, rather than at the bottom or sides. Also, another thing I've noticed through experience is that having a wider search box results in more queries being made via my search box and consequently more revenue. The Adsense for Search feature works best with sites that offer information/reference material. If the users can't find what they are looking for, they would resort to using the Google search box on your site instead.
It wouldn't be a bad idea at all to include an Adsense for Search box on your website (if you don't already have one). For those who do have this feature on their websites, do try following the optimization tips I've mentioned above. You would see noticeable improvements in your revenue from Adsense for Search. Another good tip is to lighten the borders in your search results page - I've noticed considerable improvement in my revenue doing this.
