Power Defragmenter VS Built-in Defragmenter

Power Defragmenter VS Built-in Defragmenter

A while ago, I found a tool called Power Defragmenter and Contig. As the name suggested, the program claims to take defragmentation process to a whole new level. It is a simple program with simple user interface. You can choose to defrag a file, a folder, a disk or the PowerMode which is an enhanced Dual Pass defragmentation method for maximal defragmentation level.

VistaRewired claimed that defragmentation process was gradually reduced to 6 minutes from 82 minutes on Vista machine.

I then decided to test it on Mee’s laptop. At that time, I had just finished formatted the hard drive and Windows Tiny Edition was installed. However, the defragmentation took almost half an hour to one hour. In my opinion, a newly formatted hard drive with just installed Windows shouldn’t take that long even with the built-in defragmenter.

Not satisfied, I installed Firefox 2 and copied a few portable programs into the root drive. I rebooted the system and ran Power Defragmenter again. However, it took almost the same duration as the first try.

Even though it’s free, but I reckoned that it may not work as good as the built-in defragmenter. As with other users who claimed that it improves the system performance substantially, I would only say that I don’t agree at all.

I have heard comments on Vista saying that the system will crash if defragmentation is not ran periodically. However, I have my Vista for about 6 months without any defragmentation until two weeks ago. So far, I did not experience any problems except blue screen and memory dump. It was caused by the overclock of memory module which I set it from the motherboard. However, I changed it to the original settings, and everything became normal afterwards.

Two weeks ago, I ran Vista defragmenter and it was completed below 60 minutes. I believe the time frame is acceptable and I will run it again since I have installed Service Pack 1 recently.

Yeah. I do believe that the built-in defragmenter is better than the others out there. However, I used Norton Utilities before and found that it's quite good too. Please visit My Ideas 4 You.

I run XP on my computer

I run XP on my computer and use my scheduler to run defrag weekly after midnight when I'm not using it. For that matter, I utilize the scheduler to check for and install updates, run AV and ASW sweeps of my computer, and a few other things. It makes life much simpler for me. I will have to check out that Power Defrag. A couple of others I checked out in the past were quite disappointing because they were not nearly as good as the XP version I already had. (I doubt I'll put Vista on this computer because it is a little older and the system is nearly maxed out for upgrades.) Good post! DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?
