Power Strip, save money while you sleep
posted December 30, 2008 - 10:33amBecause so many of our appliances don’t fully switch off; they cost us money while we sleep, where each item uses a lot less energy in stand-by mode than when it is fully running, it all adds up.
We have our stereo, television and other TV items on a power strip, so at night, we can turn everything completely off by just clicking the off button on the power strip.
The Satellite system has to remain on for recordings, so this goes directly into the wall.
I have my computer, monitor and printer on a single power strip, so one click and all that is off.
In the kitchen; I have a bunch of gadgets all on the same power strip also.
By being careful to ensure you do not pull too much power through a power strip, this can be an easy way to simplify switching off your gadgets.
You need to review the specification of your power strips, understand the amps your appliances use, and never draw to much power from a single socket.
Electrical items that involve heat, e.g. heaters, or are mechanical, e.g. Washing Machines – you should keep these in their own sockets as they typically draw a lot of energy and would put you at risk of overloading your sockets.
Reducing our power usage will help save the environment!
