President Elect Barack Obama delivered an historic speech in his home state at Chicago’s Grant’s Park

A simple yet eloquent and dignified speech, Barack Obama’s victory speech was nothing spectacular, quoting Abraham Lincoln and telling the story of Ann Nixon Cooper, the 106 year old voter in Atlanta, praising his opponent and recognizing the incredible challenges ahead. I was hoping for something more worthy of such a historical event, but I guess just like music these days, there is little in the way of originality when it comes to politics.

In this gracious victory speech, President Elect Barack Obama praised his opponent, Senator John McCain for a hard-fought campaign and as a true patriot who has endured more than most could even imagine in the service of his country.

“Democrats win with a measure of humility.” What did Obama mean by this? Could he be speaking to elected Democrats urging them to stay centered and not go too far to the left as has been the mistake in the past when Democrats were in power? I hope so. He went on to say, “For those that didn’t vote for me, I will be your president too.”

“Americans have sent a message to the world that we are not just a collection of red and blue states, but the United States of America.” another good statement to support non-partisan politics.

"To those that seek to tear the world down we will defeat you. Those who seek peace and prosperity, we will support you." A strong statement that should have had more emphasis to alleviate any fears that an Obama administration would be soft on terrorism and such.

A star-studded crowd was on hand including a tearful and obviously moved Jesse Jackson and Oprah Winfrey.

Now that the campaigning and election is over with, it's time to get to work on the problems that face our nation and the world.

What will happen in the coming days and weeks as Barack Obama The Obama administration will certainly have their work cut out for them with the challenges that lay ahead. Crossing party lines will be key in getting the country back on track.

Congratulations to Barack Obama and Joe Biden on their victory!
