My mother was thrilled! All this was finally and indeed happening to her!One year of relentless effort! She had been called to present her papers at a conference happening at US. It was her dream to be a part of this prestigious forum. Her work had been much appreciated and she was about to get the recognisation she deserved.
Allas her joy was shortlived! Her conference coincided with my annual exams! And what more ! A fancy dress competition! For my sister was keen to participate. All these clashed with her travel dates!
Preparing the chidren, looking after the house and kitchen, seeing to dad's needs, tending her inlaws, has always been her priority .She was working too.
Besides this the massive exercise of preparing her papers had also started side by side. She had no time for a breather! Her mind was never at peace! And 'rest' was a four letter luxury that got wiped out of her dictionary!
It was time for us to act and act right. The home and family has always been first in her priority list and this time it was She who came first in our priority list. We gave her no time to think and gave all the support she needed.
Time to pack! With mixed feelings she left for the U.S.It was a nostalgic moment .This was the first time she would be away from our home and life.
The days at home were action packed and our nights would go tossing and turning waiting for her calls! She would call us everynight to inquire how things are at home. How my father was managing work and home.Guiding and encouraging me with my preparations for the exams The night before my sister's fancydress competition she rehearsed with her over the phone. She instructed the maid to help more in the house. It seemed she was still there in the house, yet being so faroff.
We all hoped her experience was enriching and she feels the tremendous sense of achievement.
We were eagerly waiting for her homecoming . We were all excited to welcome the new woman into our midst.
