The problem of gaming addiction

Addiction is an excessive psychological dependence in spite of its harmful effects. It is considered a disorder by many people because it usually overrules our mental and physical control. Gaming alone such as casinos or video games in any form cannot be considered a problem, but being addicted to it will result to a much serious dilemma. Although it also has advantages, people seem to focus on the negative effects it creates. Here is the list of its disadvantages:

First, it is costly because once you are addicted to it, the more money you're willing to spend to continue playing the game. Just like the video game played by my son. It can be played for beginners free of charge but as you continue playing the game's challenges, you increase the level of difficulty and will require you to upgrade by means of e-points. These e-points are not for free and as you play further, the requirement of e-points increase which means more money will be needed to invest.

Second, since my son is still studying, gaming addiction becomes a hindrance to his study schedule. Instead of taking more time in reviewing, more time is being spent on playing. Sometimes, he even forgot to eat on time just because he cannot stop what he is playing.

Third, it can affect the player's eyesight for the more time you spent playing the game, your eyes becomes more tired from viewing the screen. Spending more number of hours staring closely the computer's screen or play station monitor will surely results to eye tiredness and prone to eyesight defects.

Fourth, since most of the games nowadays involves or displays violence like killing, hurting, as well as stealing, it can have negative impact on the concept of child's mind. His values is being affected and being exposed on brutality and wrong doings. In this aspect, parental guidance is much required.

And fifh, it gradually affects family relationship because more time is being spent on gaming addiction and less quality time is being spent with the family bonding activities like watching TV together, eating and sharing stories with one another. I have seen lots of parents getting angry at their children because the latter is being addicted to gaming. It is even worse if it’s the head of the family who is into gaming addiction like in casinos. It can possibly cause marital conflict.

But as I have said, although it has disadvantages, it also gives advantages. Unconsciously, it helps the player develop its strategic planning and time management skills, create valuable decisions and improve alertness and speed. It is also helpful in relieving the players from stress aside from giving them the pleasure of enjoyment.
