Prom Queen Disaster

Prom Queen Disaster

Let's go back to high school drama, shall we? Do you remember all the little fights between little cliques and all the controversy between the age brackets? What about all the stress about graduating on time? How about this one, prom? Prom is probably one of the biggest things in a student's educational career. Let's say one event made me rethink the whole system.

Do you really remember your Prom Queen and King? How about this, do you really remember the broken hearts that night? Prom is supposed to be about smiles and dancing and have a good time whether it's with your junior or senior class or just a combination of both. The best way I remember that? A popularity contest. At our 2007 prom, we had a big issue, we crowned the "wrong" queen. What does that mean now?

This how the story goes. When a young man went to crown the queen, he never fully opened the envelope, but just saw the letter "A". Two of the girls' names started with an "A". From there, he crowned the "other" queen by accident,Adriane, making one girl's night, and somehow crushing the other. The Prom advisor though, was also very close with the other uncrowned "A", who's name is Alicia. Obviously, somehow, she knew she was going to get it. Well, they had to somehow come up with a solution, so they told Adriane they made a "mistake" but that both of them would be queen. Now think about it. You ruined both of their nights. Adriane was upset because she thought she won, and Alicia was upset because she wasn't the one to actually get the crown first. Why ruin someones night over a popularity contest?

I feel that there should be a limit to how far you go with Prom Court. Maybe it is traditional to crown the two most "popular" but what about the other girls' and sometimes guys' hearts who really think they should get it? My own opinion, why not just have the court made up of Princes and Princesses? Why not just drop the popularity contest, and let everyone feel like royalty that night?
