Promoting your Xombytes Part 1: Digg.com (PoisedGuru)
posted October 17, 2006 - 11:57amThere are more ways to promote your Xombytes than I have fingers and toes. So I will begin with this list and over time I will continue to add to it.
So let's start with what's on the site already.
(from
their about page)
Digg is a user driven social content website. Ok, so what the heck does that mean? Well, everything on digg is submitted by the digg user community (that would be you). After you submit content, other digg users read your submission and digg what they like best. If your story rocks and receives enough diggs, it is promoted to the front page for the millions of digg visitors to see.
So you make an account and then when you have an article appropriate for Digg you digg it. Digging an article consists of putting in the URL, the title, category and a short description. While an average article can get about 10 diggs it amounts to 30-50 reads possibly. An outstanding article, breaking news or something that just catches the community's attention can get hundreds of diggs and result in thousands of reads. When you post a story it goes to Upcoming. From there it can either go up to the front page if it gets enough diggs or it will, after 24 hours, drop off the upcoming list. More information can be found at their FAQ.
Caveat: There are limited categories on the Digg site and the users are unforgiving. If your article is old news or does not fit into the categories prepare to be lambasted by them. They do not take kindly to false, inaccurate or 'lame' articles.
The categories are:
- Technology
- Science
- World & Business
- Sports
- Videos
- Entertainment
- Gaming
If your Xombyte does not fit into any of these I would suggest not posting it on Digg.com but instead trying some of the other links which I will talk about in the next article.
