In Prophetic Relationship

Hello everyone,

May the grace and love of Christ Jesus be in you.

I would like to bring up a subject with you about the ways of God in prophecy and in relationships. We find in Scripture that God makes what we call prophetic statements and then God changes his mind. As an example, in Genesis chapter 6, God says he is going to destroy all mankind, but then Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. Jonah goes to Nineveh and says by the authority of the Lord in 40 days Nineveh shall be destroyed, yet it doesn't happen. Which leads us to the question, "What actually is prophecy?"

In Jeremiah 23:23-40 according to the New International Translation, Scripture starts talking about the Oracle of the Lord also known as the Prophecy of the Lord, this translation is very important along with the New King James, which translates the 'oracle of the Lord' as the 'burden of the Lord.' This gives us insight into the heart of God and prophecy, in prophetic statements God makes, it is God stating his heart, the burden that is in his heart; whether good or bad (as we understand good and evil, but they are always good from God, because of his love).

We find in Ex 32:10-14 that God has gotten righteously mad at the rebellious Israelites, and is going to destroy them. God gives a prophetic statement to Moses that he is going to destroy the Israelites and promises that he will make a great nation out of Moses, but Scripture states that Moses sought the favor of God and pleads with God, and Scripture states that the Lord relents. God changed his mind. Wait! The all knowing, all powerful God, changed his mind? Wow! But, what changed God's mind?

Moses' relationship with God changed God's mind.

We find this prophetic burden and relationship again in Matthew. Jeus makes a statement about God's desire, burden, and will, to gather Israel as a hen gathers her chicks, but Jesus states they would not. This is the aspect of the prophetic burden of the Lord in relationships.

Mt 23:37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing.

Mt 23:38 Look, your house is left to you desolate.

Mt 23:39 For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’’”

God is love, and a requisite of love is relationship. And so, their house is left desolate until they restore relationship, and the fruit of that restored relationship will be that they will say, "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord."

People who come in the name of the Lord who make prophetic statements are to be fellow yoke bearers with God, in his burdens, his will, his desire. And they are proclaiming his heart and what his potential actions will be, if our actions don't change. But, God's main desire is right relationship.

If our relationship with God changes for the bad, because of his blessings, even if it come from a prophetic blessing, God will be rescind the blessing to restore relationship. God will even rescind blessing to make our relationship with him even stronger. For, that is what God is about, God is about relationship, for God is love, and these relationships effect prophecy. For prophecies will pass away, but loving relationships will always remain. And this is so highly important, that Jesus died to reconcile us to the relationship with our Father, and Father is a relational term.

Therefore, prophecy is the burden of God that can be changed due to his relationship with lowly, sinful, mankind. And what is sin, it is the disfuctionality in relationships. And because of this relationship God does not want us to suffer, but will let us suffer to restore right relationships, so that we no longer suffer, but have joy and that more abundant. And this relationship he desires with you in ever increasing measure for he truly and deeply loves you.

The Grace of God be with you and all that is yours.

Your brother in the wonderful name and nature of Christ Jesus,

James
