Proposed Trans-texas corrider to be largest-scale highway in the world
posted February 22, 2008 - 1:34amEarly rumblings of a NAFTA superhighway emerged in 2006, and interest in the subject has increased in light of the upcoming election. The original concept was to create a hybrid highway of automobile roads, rail lines, fuel pipelines, and fiber-optic communication lines in a highway several football fields wide that would
run from Mexico, through Texas, and up eventually into Canada. It would allow passenger vehicles to travel over 80 mph legally, and could support high-speed rail as well.
Private investors are heading the project, and are only in the research phase right now. Though the idea is great to some, it is still a money-making operation that will operate primarily off of tolls, and has drawn criticism from many, most notably presidential candidate Ron Paul.
