Protect your heart with this home made cranberry sauce recipe

Instead of buying Cranberry Sauce in a tin, why now wow your Christmas day guests with your own home made cranberry sauce. It’s very easy, but they don't have to know that. As its to be served cold you can make this the day ahead and keep it in the fridge covered with plastic wrap and then bring it out as you are serving up the dinner.

Cranberries are very good for your health. Eating cranberries regularly will reduce changes of Urinary Tract Infections, they are high in antioxidants, and contain large quantities of flavonoids and polyphenolic compounds that will reduce LDL levels to protect your heart. So what better reason is there to make your own fresh batch rather than buying the murdered can variety.

Ingredients:

1 cup of cranberries

Water to cover

1/4 cup of sugar

Zest of about half of an orange

Method:

1. Put the cranberries in a pan and cover with water.

2. Add a the zest of half an orange

3. Add the sugar

4. Bring up to a simmer, then turn the heat down and let it simmer for 5-10 minutes

Serve cold.

Cranberry sauce goes great with a vegetarian nut roast as well as turkey, so it can be made part of a vegetarian feast also.
