posted November 29, 2007 - 4:59amNovember 29, 2007, - In a heated hearing hosted by the Public Services Commission that oversees utilities in the Virgin Islands, rejected the proposed environmental user fees for the Waste Management Authority.
After 3 town meetings and Mary Cornwall's attempt to educate and get acceptance from the public on the proposed eur, the PSC finally listened and heard the cries of Virgin Islands residents.
The proposed fee would have put a heavy financial burden on an existing financially strapped community.
Commissioner Donald "Ducks" Cole, stated that all the pressure should not be brought to bear on the shoulders of Mary Cornwall, but that of the legislature for passing the law to implement the fees in the first place.
Senator Norman John Baptiste, has proposed legislation to get rid of the environmental user fee, which movement through the legislature will be watched closely by the general public.
