Public Apology for writing about Britney

Public Apology for writing about Britney

This article was about Britney spending $3800 on underwear and Linsday Lohan going to AA.
At the fact that it has reached over 1000 reads I feel I need to publicly apologize for putting this on Xomba. In no way did I feel this was a decent post and in no way do I condone anyone posting a wire news story on Xomba. I would like to make known that I was experiementing with what gets popular and what doesn't and it saddens me that this got so popular so fast. This is not news for one, and not literary for two, and probably makes your intelligence go down for reading dribble like this. I certainly would never say to my boss at Filter MAgazine ; Hey! Forget Sonic Youth on the cover, did you see my post about Britney? NOOOOOOOO. SO I ask that all Xombies follow suit in making sure all future stories are not news wires or celeb tabloid gossip nonsence (or maybe make a category for that). I would aslo like the poster of "Keisha Castle-Hughes Pregnant" to join me in re-editing his or her post to actually say something instead of just being a wired news story cut and pasted.

Perhaps we should ban together to have more rules put in place on Xomba to keep posts from being a press release, spam, or news wires. To take this even further we should remove all press releases and news wires. I love Jackburroughs, but I think we would all like to see his press release for Drum magazine removed. I would much rather see one of his other posts up there that are reviews of his, and he has some great ones. Back to changes. And I would like to here more from teh Keish story. That news wire told me everything I already knew? How about some personal reflection on the matter? Or personal insight or experiences.

How to change...Perhaps a petition?

In conclusion I feel that Xomba is a place for literary thought and writing and not Live Journal Blogging, therefore we should reevaluate our current situation and apply some serious thought to restructuring.

POst a Comment on here if you have any ideas for the restructuring of Xomba or you agree / disagree with my idea.

Thank you for your patience.

ps. I am sorry if anyone feels badly for reading the wire - it was an interesting wire and a very current topic, however I could have done a better job at writing it. For instance I could have spent a few lines paraphrasing the wire and then go into my own feelings on the matter. I'm not knocking people who read these articles I just think Xombies can do better then this. I mean even I was floored at a $1600 thong set, but I shouldn't have just cut and pasted. Thanks.

ps. ps. and what do we gotta do to get a spell check on this sucker?!

same problem everywhere

it's as true on here as it is on deviantart or any other writing/art site you can think of. people will read the things that grab their attention, and sadly, celebrity panties is one of those things. it would be a sad day, however, if we all tailored our xombytes to reflect this. (also, i think the more confusing the title, the more people are likely to click on it just to see what it's about, hence the popularity of the "drum!" article.)

Sue, this one's for you: "I never explain anything." -Mary Poppins (I've got more where that came from) www.joesnare.com

Actually, your Britney post

Actually, your Britney post was more revealing than Britney. About us that is. I take back my earlier suggestion about deleting it. If that's what people want, you can't make them change. In fact, it inspired me.

Once Again

If you are here to make money then follow Sue's lead and write about current news... Just do not violate any copyright laws. Everyone is here for different reasons.

Sue Stone, You Don't Have To Apologize, Britney Spears...

accepts that she is going to be written about by professional scribes like yourself. Since you write for Filter Magazine, Good Music Will Prevail you don't get a chance to cover the less musical aspects of the celebrity scene, like that of The Outlaw Britney Spears that is not letting up now that she is Fed-ex. It's a shame too, that was the person she had chosen to "spend the rest of her life with" and it really didn't have a chance to develop in private like your's and mine relationships. So, Sue Stone, I too was going to write about the Lost Angeles' "Indie Bands", but there are thousands of them. I was trying to find one with enough of a following to have a regional appeal so the Internet audience would be interested in what they have to say. MySpace today started using the Google Search so MySpacers seraching for their Indie Band can see what they are doing on the internet besides their MySpace pages. Just to clarify

Just wanted to point out that my comment on Sue's apology was done with tongue firmly in cheek. Xomba has all types of writing, and nobody should feel they have to apologize for writing about the antics of celebrities, politicians, etc. Apologies if my comment came off like I was taking a shot at Sue, I certainly wasn't. I was partly poking fun at writers (including myself) who want to do good, solid work but face the reality that that kind of work often gets low pay or little attention in favor of celeb stories and "pervert-of-the-week" journalism (as Ted Turner so aptly put it). Regarding Sue's point, Xomba doesn't forbid press releases, though I think maybe they should. Posting news wire stories word for word, one the other hand, is copyright infringement and illegal, but describing a news story or paraphrasing it in your own words isn't a problem. I don't see Xomba as strictly a place for literary thought and writing; in fact it was set up specifically to allow all types of writing, from recipes to poetry to humor to how-to's to personal recollections. Back in the Jurassic Period of Xomba, some people wanted to eliminate recipes. Some wanted to ban poetry. I think if the admins started ruling out particular types of writing, they'd be heading down a slippery slope. Except for press releases, which are by definition marketing documents and would, I think, already be disallowed by the rules. One solution would be to make sure the categories and tags are accurate; this would make it easier for people to find the content they want and skip the content they're not interested in. That's my 25 cents, who's next ;-)

Very clever, you are. What

Very clever, you are. What school was it? If you click on my Britney post it has been edited to reflct this apology. SUCKAS! --Sue

Sue's apology

Sue is quickly learning the media game--public apologies are big news! OK, her mea culpa here on Xomba won't get the ink (or electrons, or whatever) that Mel Gibson and Kramer got. But hey, she's made a smart move in killing two birds with one stone by 1) distancing herself from her Britney post, which bolsters her journo cred, and 2) doing the ever-so-trendy public apology thing. I was a journalism major in college so I applaud your dedication to real news. But as an unemployed writer, I have to echo the title of that Randy Newman song, "It's money that I want!" So if Britney drops her kid while playing drums and viewing Ubisoft game screens while not wearing any panties, I will do my best to write the first xombyte about it so as to get some Google clicks!
