Public Wi-Fi under Attack

If you have a public Wi-Fi hotspot then you could end up having to play a $300,000 fine if "illegal" or "obscene" images use your connection. The House just passed the "SAFE Act". Quoted from a news.com article "anyone offering an open Wi-Fi connection to the public must report illegal images including "obscene" cartoons and drawings--or face fines of up to $300,000"

Basically you have to now spy on your neighbour and report anything that you find offensive. This could cover individuals, coffee shops like starbucks, and public libraries to say the least. It also includes a provision that would require a sweep of social network sites such as myspace, as well as your personal hotmail and gmail accounts. Basically releasing all of your private information to the government.

So imagine this scenerio that you are a rocket scientist, and are in starbucks drinking a coffee and starbucks is collecting the data in accordance with this act. You just happen to be looking up rocket fuel formulas, or emailing a co-worker. They're now required to report this. Can we say enough already?

At least two people got it right, thank you Ron Paul.
