A resume is likely the first impression you're going to make for an employer when looking for a new job, and possibly the last.

If you're out of work and you have to find a new job, it definitely wouldn't hurt to have a great looking resume packed full of helpful information about why they should hire you. Personally, I know people who have been hired on the spot when the interveiwer saw their professional looking resume.

Putting the right information on your resume is important, as it shows which areas you would be able to contribute to in the new job. It can't hurt if you're out of work to freshen up your resume.
