Racism And Xenophobia In McCain Supporters

Disgusting.

That is the only word that I can come up with while watching CNN today. Youtube footage is springing up of a McCain supporters entering a Sarah Palin rally last week in Johnstown, PA. Here is that video:

I find the man with the Curious George doll particularly disturbing. And apparently so did CBS who found the man in the audience during the rally. He didn't like the mainstream media filming him, so watch as he scrambles to get rid of the doll:

Not enough? How about this awesome piece of patchwork from a Cailfornia Republican Women's Group:

Or how about a hanging Obama effigy in Fairfeild, Ohio:

This has to stop. It is disgusting and the McCain campaign is doing nothing to tamp this hatred down. At one point I thought McCain was an honorable man. Not anymore.

Racism

Lynn Shea I can't believe in this day and age that racism is so a live and well. I would think by this time in America that we could all learn to get along. With the election time only about two weeks away-wouldn't you think it is an issuse who can do the best job, not a black and white issuse! Instead of all the mug slanging both parties are doing-don't you want to hear about what they plan on doing. And what the they can do hontestly..

Unfortunately

It is true that some people are prejudiced and it is very unfortunate that we can not control or change that without the involved people wanting to change. How about the degree of prejudice involved and the conduct of those that want to claim prejudice by others. I recall the black riots because a drunk refused to do what the cops told him and his look alikes rioted, looted and destroyed property. How about the look alikes threarening to do the same if Obama is not the winner. More whites are voting for Obama then there will ever be blacks voting for McCain. How does that work for prejudice.

An Embarassment to the American People

Before you read...beware....this really struck a nerve! I have been a Republican as long as I can remember. With a few exceptions, I have always voted Republican. I say this only to further emphasize my next statement....As an American, I am overwhelmingly embarrassed for the rest of the world to see this. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and because we live in the great country that we do, we have the freedom to speak out about what we believe. Speaking out is a wonderful thing. Tell people what you believe and why. Too many people base their beliefs on what they hear on tv...maybe voicing your opinion will make them do their own research and form their own opinions. However, for you to display yourself on national tv the way these people did, knowing that the rest of the world is looking to us right now to see how we choose to get ourselves out of this rut we are in, only shows that you have no self respect and don't have enough of a mind to think for yourselves and intelligently voice your beliefs...because if they had half a brain, they would realize that all they have done is turn people off from what they apparently have convinced themselves that they believe. Sadly, the media only provokes these people even more, which only serves to make the American public in general look like idiots to the rest of the world. Way to go! Thank you for this post...it allowed me to explode on the computer screen! No seriously, people do need to be aware of how stupid they look on tv! Maybe they will be embarrased enough to not do it again...or maybe not....who knows, they might enjoy making fools of themselves on national tv! Great post...I cant wait to see how other people react to this! +1 Although mine is not controversial or political...check it out...I'm new to this and would love some imput... http://www.xomba.com/college_credit_traveling_world http://cnj265-travel.blogspot.com/

McCain is beyond the pale(in)

His argument at the last debate that most of his supporters are good old American patriots with just a few hotheads thrown in is simply not true. I watched, on PBS's "Now" last night, the wife of an undecided voter who smirked self-righteously through her interview that she could never vote for anyone named "Obama" and was praying that her husband, a thoughtful fellow somehow stuck with a mindless, racist wife, would decide to vote for McCain. I just don't understand how this great country of ours breeds people like her. It's infuriating and scary. Even if I had considered voting Republican, which I could not as a liberal, McCain's cynical choice of the racist, anti-choice, amoral, abysmally ignorant Palin to court the far right religious wackos eliminated him immediately for me. Although I still haven't decided if Obama will get my vote, I would consider voting for him just because he's a smart, savvy, fair-minded, level-headed black man and deserves a fair chance, even if he's not the liberal I envisioned as president.

This campaign has opened an ugly wound that money can't hide

The mantra of both parties in Congress has been "throw money at it" if it is an inconvenient problem that no one wants to address. The failure of some people has been allowed to be blamed on others and that wound has been festering under our collective skins for too long. What this racial component of the 2008 presidential campaign has done is open up the wound and expose it to the world for all to see. Now that it is open and suppurating, no amount of money can be thrown at it to cover it back up. For one, I am glad that Barack Obama came along when he did. It is high time a high-profile black man reminded us that black people can be successful under their own power. I am voting for him because I am of the hope that he can serve as an example to all races, creeds, and colors that a person of modest birth can rise to the highest office in the land. The economic woes our country now faces are the result of governmental shenanigans by both Democrats and Republicans. If our country is to survive this and come out better for it, then we need to take a hard look at the real problems and expose them to the sunlight, the very same sunlight that is the best disinfectant. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

Is this a Klan Rally or A Palin Rally, Hard To Tell.

As a republican who is voting for a good American guy who just happens to have a funny name, Obama, it saddens me to see how the far right has taken over the party. How would Ronald Reagan have reacted if someone in one of his rallies had said "kill him" or "terrorist" about his opponent. Unlike the lesser educated Sara Palin he would have said something like, "well, wait just a minute fella, we don't need that kind of talk here". It's too bad so many of the people who need an Obama style health care plan, that includes everybody and punishes greedy insurance companies, are against him. I think McCain shares the blame for staying silent about this kind of crap.

Unfortunately

These type people are becoming the face of the Republican party. It sad because I do not believe it respresents the Republican party at all. It is disappointing that at one time I was seriously considering vote for McCain and would've been bunched in with these extremists. I don't know if they are embolden by Palin's appeal to the extreme right or not. You would think that someone in the McCain camp would've grabbed the monkey from that guy's hand and told him they don't need that in there. Then again maybe they do want America to see that these people really do exist and are gonna vote for McCain - sad.
