Ramsay Told To Clean Up His Act
posted April 19, 2009 - 6:39amRamsay faces more Kitchen Nightmares today following a report in the Sunday Mirror that claims “mice and cockroaches” were found in his ultra posh, Michelin starred restaurant in Claridges, London.
Hygiene Inspectors found that Ramsay’s team of Chefs reported cockroaches in one kitchen and had ordered pest control experts in to tackle the problem. Their finding also stated that the restaurant had a problem with "ongoing mice activity".
The report was conducted in December 2007 and also found that ingredients had been stored at the wrong temperature, food scraps were found on the floor of the walk-in fridge and hot water was unavailable in some hand basins. A later report published in March of this year found that all the issues had been resolved.
Problems were also found at some of Ramsay’s other eateries in the Capital which include the The Boxwood Cafe in the Berkeley Hotel and the Michelin starred Maze Restaurant in Grosvenor Square currently managed by Michael West, the Restaurant Director. Michael West, joined Gordon Ramsay in April 2001 and has also managed the Boxwood Cafe and spent a short time with Gordon Ramsay at Claridges.
"The Restaurant Gordon Ramsay " is London’s only 3 Michelin starred restaurant where a meal can cost up to £128 per head. Inspectors recently described it as “excellent and well run” restaurant. A spokesperson for Ramsay said that all issues had been dealt with and the restaurants had all scored “very good” or “excellent” for hygiene. “Claridges is an historic building and from time to time, pest issues are reported, usually when there is building work in the area.” To counter the problem the company retained full time pest control experts.
The 42 year old Celebrity TV Chef, who stars in the reality TV show “Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares” helps failing restaurants. In one episode the superchef closed the Priory Restaurant in Sussex, as he claimed the kitchen hygiene was so poor.
This comes after another public blunder exposed last week relating to four of his restaurants in London; he was criticized for serving boil in the bag meals that had been pre-pared in his central London food factory and shipped via van across the Capital.
Critics have been saying for years that Gordon Ramsay has spread himself too thinly in order to manage his vast International gastronomic empire said to be worth in excess of 60 million.
