Rate My Cop : My Opinion
Rate My Cop : My Opinion
As we are all aware the internet has provided us with all types of rating systems. Some of the most popular usually involve rating the hotness level of someones picture. Myspace has the popular "rate my professor" which i use sometimes when I'm picking classes for the new semester. But now we have Rate My Cop. Anyone can rate a certain officer if they know the name or badge number. This is good for officers, and bad. Personally, if a cop gets a lot of good opinions it could lead to a better community trust in the system, but if there are a lot of bad opinions, the community could lose its trust in their local police force. Someone could post a bad review out of spite from receiving a ticket. If I were a cop I would feel horrible if there were bad reviews for the world to view online, but at the same time it could be cool to see great reviews. They have no control over who is going to get angry about a ticket or incident and say really mean things in the review. Think about if you got a ticket, right away we walk away angry with the cop for disrupting our time, out of anger we might post something bad about them. When you think about it, the officer was just doing his job. At the same time it leaves open the opportunity for citizens to thank an officer for help. So really my opinion is mixed, I'm a criminal justice major looking to get into law enforcement, so this is something I'll be interested in following up on.
