Reading Guidelines for parents - what to do for your child at each age and stage

Being supportive of your child's reading development is such a worthy goal! Sometimes, though, parents can feel pressured. Advertisers have much to gain by promoting expensive tools. Parents hope that investments in software and learning equipment will provide children with reading success later on. It starts right now, in the toddler and preschool years. However, fostering a love of reading in young children is more than simply purchasing a video tape, or computer software. And, it is more than drilling phonics and letter names.

Please refer to the article below for specific things you can do as a parent at each age, and stage, to promote successful prereading skills in your child.

I will be posting more articles on speech, language, and reading development for young children in the next weeks. Please stop back often for updates!
