posted February 20, 2008 - 6:15pmReal Madrid lost 2-1 to AS Roma in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League 2nd round match on Tuesday, February 19.
The game was the first victory for Roma over Real Madrid in the Stadio Olimpico. Real Madrid striker Raul opened the scoring in the eighth minute. He deflected Guti's shot past the goalkeepeer to give Real Madrid an important away goal. David Pizarro equalised for the home team in the 24th minute off of a cross from Mancini. And it was Mancini who stunned Real Madrid in the 58th minute after receiving a great pass from Francesco Totti. Real Madrid substitute Royston Drenthe came close to an equaliser in the 80th minute, but his effort bounced off the crossbar.
The 2-1 result gives Roma a slight advantage going into the second leg at the Bernabeu, but Real Madrid did get an away goal. If the two sides tie on aggregate after the two legs, away goals will decide who moves on to the champions league quarterfinals.
