This really burns my .....

Excuse me a minute while a go off on a little rant. I usually leave the politics to other writers on this site as they usually much more informed than I am. But after reading this article I just had to write something.

The author of this article somehow thinks it is the responsiblity of the opposition party to pick apart the other party. Really? That is really what is best for our country? I am all for opposing points of view and think it is a big mistake that the Democrats almost totally control the federal government even though I am a Democrat. I believe compromise is, and should, be an intergral part of government; that all points of view, whenever possible, should be considered when making a decision. With one party ruling those types of things start falling by the wayside. That's why I believe the Repubs would be much better off in working with Dems to get at least some of their agenda through.

It seems to me that for a long time both parties have sat back and said "Hey, look, we are not them." Yeah, so what? What are you doing to better our country other than stick your moronic face in a camera and say how bad the other guy is. Now is the time that the Repubs need real leaders to step up to drive their agenda and they are not going to get there by pointing fingers and shaking their heads in front of their adorning cameras. When I see votes down party lines I believe our system is failing. It is no longer "How do we try to make this work for everyone" but "Us against Them". Which serves no one but the parties themselves. Rush, Cheney and Newt can not help and should help them in this effort. The Repubs need someone making the decisions to step up and the Dems need that as well. The Dems need someone to say "Wait a minute, what is the merit of this opposing point of view?" We should not blindly follow anyone and right now it seems both parties are doing just that. And it will not change until we make them change.

Demand more from your representatives whoever and whatever they are. Demand that the Repubs quit looking at an entertainer, a has-been and wanna-be as a leader. Demand that the Pelosi and Reid at least try to work with the other party. Demand the best run for office not just who the party choses. Demand recognition of a third or fourth party. Demand a better government.

We are not nor have we been

We are not nor have we been the United States in a very long time. We are the Republicans and Democrats of a grouped land mass. We also have a few other groups thrown in there, but just like in campaigning for a President, they are left out. I like your idea of a set campaign budget of equal amount to ALL parties/persons running for ANY office of government. From city council member to the President of the US. I'm not much a political person for all the reason you rant about. This government has not been for the people, but for the money for many years. MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! I think we're all getting really burned up

I agree with all of you. America's problem isn't "party specific", it's systemic. The vast majority of elected officials in DC forgot where their power came from. They thought if they showed up in their district on occasion they were representing effectively. Now they have become so entrenched thanks to enough "followers" who are kept in the dark that they have now become complacent and reckless. It has now made it's way "to the top". President Obama doesn't even trust Congress enough himself. Why is he setting up all of these "czars"? They don't report to Congress, they report only to Obama. You watch how they get ticked off now, Obama's doing to them what they've already done to us and they don't like it anymore than we do. The only way we can come out of this as a truly "United States" is for US the PEOPLE to set our differences aside and come up with a real plan. From local to national offices there must be term limits. Local offices are generally part-time jobs, so too should State and Federal. This is the only way that each of them can truly know how to effectively "represent" their district. When your term is up in one "house of congress" you CANNOT run for office in the other house. Find a different way to make a difference, maybe be a voice that teaches those of us back home how to be effective on different levels. This in itself could eliminate the need for "full time" Federal Officials. I don't believe that politics should be a "job", it's something that should be designed to guide Our Nation, not push it where someone with a quick wit and tongue or a fat wallet think it should go. Things have gotten too complex, we need to go back to basics. "Peace through strength, weakness only invites aggression" Ronald Regan

Thank you but

Thank you Sherry but it is not so much caring about the republican point of view as it is doing what is right for the country and the simple fact is there are a lot of republicans in this country so that voice should be heard and taken into consideration. Visit my homepage here

Your point of view

That's integrity when you can say that you're a democrat, and still care about the republican's point of view. I'm proud of you. +1 Sherry Grimes

exactly

Exactly jdub. I'm tired of voting for the lesser of two evils. More and more I am having trouble letting either party represent me. I have long voted for the best candidate whenever possible but now it is harder and harder to find that best candidate. The runners respresent their parties more than the people and a lot of that has to do with where the money comes from. Guess who would get the money from the RNC between a moderate and a conservative? Same for the Dems. What would happen if the government gave a set amount for a candidate to run and that was all the money he/she could get/use? And candidates got the same amount? I know a lot more activist parties would pop up and the poli parties would run their own ads but I think it would help. Visit my homepage here

It's time for fresh blood

I am tired of the Republicrat political inbreeding that passes for so-called representative republicanism (small "r") in Washington and (for me) Sacramento. What would be best for this country is an end to the Republican-Democratic duopoly on the political process, especially the debates and who is allowed equal access in the media. Before the November election last year, I posed a question in one of my articles to the Republican side here and asked if Obama won, would the Republicans end the debates and work together with the Democratic side. I posed the same question to the Democratic side if McCain won. I never got a clear answer from the Republican side and the disappearance of most of its contingent save for the few pointed jabs at President Obama here and there. You are right when you say that this country needs a united front. It is time for partisan politics to be put aside until the next election, if those partisan politicians in Washington actually care about their constituency in this country. The mess that our country faces is as much a product of the Republican Party as it is the Democratic Party. Neither side is clean, particularly since the Republicans had the White House for eight years and a Republican majority in Congress for six of eight years under Bush, until January 2007. The Democrats have had control of Congress since January 2007 and of the White House since January 2009 and things haven't gotten much better, but for the Republican talking heads to claim that this entire mess is the result of the Democrats holding two branches of government is pretty laughable considering its only been four months. No, we need fresh blood in Washington with new ideas and an end to the Republicrat duopoly. CLICK HERE TO JOIN XOMBA TODAY!
