Reconciling These Two Proverbs to Each Other: Proverbs 26, Verses 4 and 5
posted October 22, 2009 - 9:54amI was looking for the Biblical wisdom on 'man being right in his own eyes' when I found these two proverbs---right next to each other.
The first one would say, 'Don't play a fool's game, or you'll become a fool yourself.' But it's immediately followed by a verse that says, 'Play the fool's game right, or else the fool will continue playing it foolishly.'
Elsewhere in Proverbs, the field is set with 'they who choose to be wise' and 'they who--not choosing to be wise--naturally become fools.'
Were I selfish, I would say that 'marriage leads to foolishness,' but--from a universal point-of-view--I see that (while marriage may lead one to let one's wisdom fall off) it is as wise as 'throwing dirt on the ground' (you know where things are going to go anyway, you're just speeding-up the process).
