Reconstructive Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is the correction or restoration of form and function. Plastic surgery has nothing to do with plastic. Plastic surgery usually involves skin grafting where the skin is obtained from recipient or a donor. It is either:

1. Autografts: where the skin is taken from recipient, or cultured sheets of epithelial cells in vitro or synthetic compounds.
2. Allografts: where the skin is taken from a donor of the same species.
3. Xenografts: where the skin is taken from a donor of a different species
