Recover Lost Cell Phones
posted November 2, 2009 - 4:57pm
A lost cell phone can be a harrowing experience especially if your cell phone is like your second brain (as so many of us ruefully admit). Chances are you left it at a friend or relative’s house, but in case you didn’t
here are a few tips to help you recover your phone.
Ring Your Phone
If you have another phone, you can give your phone a call (it is good for these occasions to know your own phone number). However, if you don’t have your phone with you, check out http://www.wheresmycellphone.com/ to ring your cell phone from any computer. This site will only work for US and Canadian residents.
Yougetitback
Yougetitback.com is a lost and found system for your cell phone. If you have lost your phone or believe it stolen, you can visit http://www.yougetitback.com/ and download the software to your phone. For only ten dollars you can protect your cell phone for three years. Yougetitback will also prevent anyone from using your phone to call anywhere except the Yougetitback service line to get your phone returned to you.
Tracking
Uploading a GPS system onto your phone will make it easier to find. Contacting your cellular provider will enable you to find the location of your phone as most of them have fully comprehensive tracking capabilities.
Phone Block
In the same call as the tracking call, make sure your cellular provider puts a block on the phone. Give the phone one or two hours to make a call to you before you put a block on it. Most cellular companies will take charges off of your phone if you can prove that you were not in possession of the phone at the time of the call. Also, some people are honest enough to try to make efforts to get your phone back to you, but if your phone is blocked from calling, they won’t be able to do that.
Report the Phone Stolen
If you haven’t received contact about the phone after two to three hours it is time to go to the police. Even if you don’t know who may have taken the phone, it is likely the phone has been picked up. Sometimes the phone will be returned, but not always. Many phone companies will offer you discounts to get new phones to replace the lost or stolen ones at little or no charge.

Awesome!
Thanks for the article, I know I speak for many when I say "Aaaarrgh!!!!" Losing your phone is the worst, so much work has to go into getting a new one and then programming it. Better to just follow these tips and not lose it, lol.
PS... That yougetitback.com is a great site too. I recommend it!
