Remember Your P's and Q's

Remember Your P's and Q's

I believe that saying please and Thank You are truly the foundation for being kind. Every person deserves to give and receive kindness. I believe that all people should conduct themselves by treating others the way they would want to be treated. Remember, you have no right to judge someone until you've walked a mile in his or her shoes.

It is very important to my husband and I to teach our children to be thankful and to give thanks. As role models to our children, and to others, we are sure to do our best to use kind words. I am so proud every time my three year old says, "thank you so very much." You can see they joy on a person's face when they hear that from a child her age. Children love to learn and follow in their parent’s footsteps. As parents, if you use kind words your children will learn to do the same.

Have you ever entered a place of business and held the door open for a stranger? If the stranger says, "Oh, thank you," it makes you feel good. If the stranger says nothing at all you may tend to think they are being rude, and you may ask yourself "why did I help that person?"

Asking for things in a polite way is just as important as saying thank you. If a person does not use the word please when asking for something they tend to sound demanding. Nobody wants to help someone who sounds like they are barking orders. When you ask "please," it is another way to immediately show someone that you are thankful for his or her help, and so, they will most likely want to help you.

Using "Please and Thank You" can really make a difference in your interactions with others. Please practice being kind.

Your "holding the door open"

Your "holding the door open" example just made me think of my first day in New York. Was about to walk into a restaurant and saw a couple in heated discussion storming their way out. So rather than being crushed by the oncoming wildebeests I held the door open. "He's obviously not from New York!" mumbled the ungrateful guy. I guess not... but I quickly got into the same attitude. Reminded me of Rome. Not so much rude per se... just somewhat graceless. Join Xomba Here

Learn something new

Learn something new everyday and sometimes the simplest "new" can make you laugh. Your explaination made me laugh as it really is so simple...once explained. Kind of like a riddle. MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! Avatar: Betrayal and Retribution http://www.valkyrieart.com/Poser1.html

P's and Q's Finally!

Great article ljjelly! +1 I also want to say Thank you so much for finally clearing up a great mystery for me. I have heard that phrase during my youth and even occasionally in my adult life, but never did understand the "Q" part. lol MJ - Sending happy thoughts and Smiles! My Grandma always told us "to mind your p's and q's"

I never understood what Grandma was telling us to do exactly, then one day, I had her explain herself. P- of course, stands for "please," and Q- stands for the "kyou" sound when you say "thank you." Join Xomba- http://www.xomba.com/referral/777bb60c
