Remembering Jim McKay: 2008 Olympics

Almost exactly one month ago today, we lost the great American
sports broadcaster, Jim McKay, a veteran of mulitple
Olympics including the 1972 terrorist tragedy -- and the man whose voice is ingrained in the minds
of those of us old enough to remember ABC TV's Wide World
of Sports, 'The Thrill of Victory, & The Agony of Defeat'.

One can't help but wonder what Jim thought about staging the
Olympics in the land of the most oppressive government in the world, and the media dog & pony show currently going on where no one dares to talk about the elephant in the room.

While everyone pretends that the Chinese government has come to dine at the table of respect for human rights, it's closer
to the truth that, under Bush, the United States has come
close to sinking to China's horrific level of human rights abuse.

My guess says Jim was not too Thrilled by this. Indeed he
might have Agonized over it, before he left us last month.

Jim McKay, gone but never forgotten.
