Remembering Nine-Eleven: Lest We Never Forget

We must NEVER forget what happened on September 11th, 2001. 2,993 people lost their lives on that day. We, as a nation, lost our mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, policemen and women, firemen and women, nurses, doctors, construction workers, and every other person who has impacted our lives. Let us not let the deaths of these people ever be casted aside. Americans should always remember the pain that the 19 Al-Queda terrorists caused us.

I will never forget where I was and what I was doing the exact moment the news broke that we were attacked. That memory is forever embedded in my brain. I have no idea how terrible it was to lose a family member on that day or what it was like to wait and worry to find if your loved was okay or not. But, I will say this; their lives will not be forgotten to me. I will not just remember them every year on the anniversary of that date but I will say a prayer for them each and every day. I may have been 3,000 miles away but, it still impacted my life as if I was right there while it happened because as an American, that day, they didn’t just bomb the World Trade Center, they bombed the whole United States.

Courage, as defined by Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, 11th Ed., states “mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.” Courage cannot even begin to describe the brave actions of the 40 passengers on United 93. They took control and made the decision to give up their lives so that the United States could be safe.  I commend each and every one of them so that I may continue living my precious life as I know it.

For all those who died on 9/11, WTC: 2,605, American 11: 87, United  175: 60, The Pentagon: 125, American 77: 59, and United 93: 40, you shall always live in the hearts of the American people. You shall live in mine forever and I shall make it my mission so that you will never be forgotten. Our prayers are with your families and I will tell my children of how brave and courageous you were so that, they too shall never forget.

We may celebrate and honor their lives once a year but that is not enough. Let’s not forget the reason our military is at war, to avenge the lives of the Americans we lost on September 11th. Our mission is to capture the evil demon behind our darkest moment in history. Our men and women, our armed forces, are over there because the terrorist attacked us first. We need to keep that in the forefront of our daily lives.

Our troops are now in Afghanistan fighting, and why is their battle not upfront in the media? Because we as Americans have stopped caring and we never should have. Our troops deserve our full support and we need to show them that we still care. Our Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force are our avenging angel and we should thank them and shower them with our love. Yes, I know that they are tired and weary but we must continue to finish what they started. We should not have a lack of volunteers. Our armed forces should be at max capacity because our fellow Americans were killed and we should be lining up to make sure that never happens again; not on our watch.

When you wake up tomorrow, say a prayer for those we lost on 9/11 and make it a point to thank a veteran that day. But, also take your time to sit down and write a letter to a lonely soldier who is somewhere out in a hot sweltering desert making sure that you able to get up and go to work safely; that your children are able get on the morning bus without a worry. You are safe today because a soldier is on watch doing his best to make sure that you stay alive today. A nice care package would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
