The Republican Party Is God’s Party
posted May 4, 2009 - 9:57amIt is really amazing how many people pick and chose what laws to follow. Even more amazing is the fact that some people actually want others to follow a set of laws that they absolutely refuse to follow.
Some nations are criticized because they follow, to the letter, the teachings of their faith. Governments are setup and administrated according to the laws of their faith.
The United States of America founding fathers sought to guard against the excesses of any one religion. Although the effort has been valiant, it has not always been successful.
Many of the laws in the United States are tied to the teachings of the Judeo Christian faith. Although the United States constitution requires separation of state and church a great number of laws are derived from the teachings in the bible.
What is really interesting to note is the way politicians interpret the law. From the far right is heard a loud cry about abortions, same sex relations and doing the “moral” thing. According to the bible, abortion is wrong. God will punish you if you allow abortions to take place.
The moral Christian right politicians rally to the cry of antiabortionist. But, wait, what about the rest of the bible? What about that part that says “thou shall not commit adultery”? President Reagan was married twice. And take Newt Gingrich, he has been married three times. Even worse it appears that he selects his new wife even before divorcing his current wife.
And what about that other rule found in the bible about not stealing? How many politicians have gone to jail for taking what does not belong to them?
And let’s not forget the one about same sex relations. The list is long. In fact it is so long that there is insufficient room here to list everything.
The really interesting fact here is that the far right conservative fraction of the Republican party insists that it is, not only their right, but their obligation to enforce the rules of the Judeo Christian faith.
But the enforcement of those rules only extends to others, not to themselves. Somehow they seems to be exempt from the teachings of the bible. Yet they seek to enforce those teachings on everyone else.
In a strange way a comparison can be made to the Taliban. The right wing of the Republican party believes that the morals taught in the bible should be the law of the land and anyone not following those laws should be punished. The Taliban believe the same thing except they follow the laws found in the koran.
If it were up to the right wing of the Republican party women would not be allowed to vote. If it were up to the right wing of the Republican party all women would have to were burkas. If it were up to the Republican party women would have to stay home, barefoot and pregnant. If it were up to the Republican party women… Hey can anyone tell me were to sign up to become a Republican?
