Research Proves Men Talk as Much as Women

With so much hype over women’s equality, it’s time for a little male equality, don’t you think?

Now that I have your, you may not be as pleased as you thought you’d be. Recent studies reveal men talk just as much as women do. Popular theory would have you believe that women are much more talkative than men, speaking 20,000 words a day, compared to that of the average man’s 7,000.

But a study being published in Science magazine debunks that stereotype. According to the new research, both men and women use approximately 16,000 words a day.

The sample group was way too small to support the claims...

The study claims it "debunked" the notion that women talk more than men. With the US population being just over 300,000,000 people (and the world population being 6,000,000,000 people), 396 college students is hardly a representative sample group to give empirical evidence to support the conclusions of the study. True science starts without any preconceived notions and tracks the progress of the experiment before drawing conclusions. Junk science, which is the foundation of politicized social experimentation, starts with a desired outcome and manipulates the experiment and the data to support the desired outcome. If the study here were to be honest and forthright, it would have only claimed (and been able to support) that college kids at whatever campus hosted the study had men and women college students speak close to the same number of words. There is nothing in the study, as it is written, to support applying the ratio to the population of the US or world accurately. Therefore, nothing was *debunked*. I found the study interesting, but nowhere near accurate enough to overcome known evolutionary physiological difference between men and women.

Social experimentaion, if healthy, is good.

This research is definitely an example of social experimentation but isn't that one of the pecularities of human race which helps us to progress. As far as the political agenda is concerned, I am not sure what you meant by that. When I read the article, it made me smile and I decided to share it with you all. Thankyou for your views. It is always invigorating to read inputs from others about such researches. Keep writing, Shallybyte

This "research" can hardly be called conclusive...

The study only observed 396 college students. The total US population is estimated at just over 300 million as of July 2007, so the test group is neither representative of the US population nor of the age demographic of the US population. Women's brains develop from birth differently from men and women have a more-developed corpus callosum, the membrane in the brain that allows communication between the two hemispheres. It goes back to the hunter-gatherer days of all of our ancestors, where the males needed to be single-task-focused and talk less while stalking prey and the females were able to socialize and watch the children while gathering from the trees. This so-called study is just one more example of political agendas and social experimentation attempting to replace basic human physiology and evolution.
