The Responsibility of Personal Responsibility.
posted March 23, 2009 - 12:28pmIs there such a thing as personal responsibility for areas that we see need improvement? Are we the people responsible to help in areas that need help?
When we see an automobile accident and no emergency agencies are there, we are responsible to stop till emergency personnel show up. When we see a lost child we are responsible to take the child to the parents or the police station.
Our responsibility is a moral standard and a responsibility enforced by laws that is, until the appropriate authorities arrive.
What if the authorities are not doing a good job, is our responsibility absolved by non-responsible authorities taking over the responsibility?
If we believe it is our responsibility to take care of our aging parents, and we place them in a responsible adult care facility and we find that they are not responsible; then are we again responsible for finding better care for our parents? If we write a letter to the institution and nothing changes, then are we released form that responsibility?
And so I ask you as a writer; does writing a good argument relieve us of the responsibility of personal responsibility? (rhetorical).
