A Responsibility: Visionary Education
posted November 6, 2009 - 11:22pmComparing the education of my parents to my own is like comparing the stories of my parents’ television to the TV that I watched as a child. First of all there is no ability for me to truly compare my parents rsquo; education to my own, for I did not experience my parents’ education. So, for me to judge that would be like judging stories of the past to my own experiences. The education of my generation, the seventies and eighties, was far in advanced to my parents, which was that of the forties and fifties.
Today's education is so far more advanced compared to my parents’ education. Their education may have fit for what was needed in their generation. The education of my generation may have been the perfect education for my generation. What matters are not the past, but our responsibilities to this and future generations.
Today, we go out and bring home the latest and newest televisions, yet we do not know how to fully operate them. We do not get the best use from that which we have. Today's education has the ability to give us the sharpest, clearest and most detailed view of our world, but we do not know some of the background abilities in how to bring those visions to light. Is an S-video cable better than a HDMI? Will my new television support Hi-Definition? What are the channels (input) with the cables we are using? If our input is not in sink with our mode of vision, all is confusion and frustration. In today's education we have the ability to receive the greatest educational vision in the world from various modes of reception. Are we teaching our youngsters; what are the various styles of education, how to best bring in those visions, what is the newest and best technology, what are the benefits and downfalls with each type of reception, i.e. when it snows is your education of no value if you've trained through satellite technology, how can we be life long vision watchers, and here are your options if you like to study this type of programming? We tend to teach our children what we want them to know, the basics are essential, but we are not training them how to best pull in educational visions. It is the responsibility of our generation to best educate the next generation, then to encourage that generation to take on responsibility to train their children and grand children.
Therefore, it does not matter if my generation’s educational system was better than my parents. What matters; are our teachers continually being taught so they can best train the next generation as effectively and thoroughly as possible? Education is not a matter of babysitting the children of negligent parents. Education is a matter of giving a child an opportunity to determine what his or her life’s potential is and help teach each child to grow into all that they can be, whether their parents are negligent or not.
Knowledge is power. If the next generation is fully trained we will grow old in a strong and powerful country, with pride in our hearts that we were not neither lazy, nor lax, in our responsibilities to teach our children, who will be the leaders of our tomorrows. We, as their teachers, have a responsibility to not be lazy and teach them just the knowledge of our generation and generations past. We, as teachers, have a responsibility to keep up with this generation’s vast amount of knowledge, sort it, and best present it to our children, who will determine what they want to know, how they will apply it, and how they will rule this country. For, truly they are the visionaries of this county’s future abundance.
When the twilight grows dim,
And all turns to gray,
We will be happy,
For responsibilities we took, this day.
If we are lazy,
And don’t look for new ways,
We will grow cold
In the heat of a summer’s day.
