The Return of the Prodigal Son by jdubhub

Okay, that's it. Vacation's over. Time to get back to writing. What have I missed?

*Yawn.*
*Big stretch.*
*Crack those knuckles.*

Wow, the new Xomba site looks wonderful. Congratulations to Nick on the birth of your new baby. Abmox is his name, you say? He's looking pretty dapper there, all decked out and striking a new set of poses. Cheers.

For those of you who have been asking about me, I've been taking a bit of a mental vacation from writing over the past couple of months. You've missed me? Aww, thank you. I've missed you, too. Xomba has been my home away from home for over two years now and I like to take these little mini-vacations about once a year to recharge the old batteries of my creative center.

This year is real special for me because my son is going to be starting Montessori preschool at the end of this month. As much as I am enthusiastically looking forward to him getting his education in one of the best school programs available, I am a little bit sad because I've been his stay-at-home dad for the past four-and-a-half years and he's my best buddy and now I have to share him with his new classmates.

So, if you bear with me while I adjust my energy and focus, I am about two weeks away from having a half day's worth of free time to write and tap into that creative flow. I am also going to be writing a biweekly column under the Family & Home category about homelife from a stay-at-home dad's perspective. There are not as many dads staying home as moms and it's most certainly not what one could call a "traditional" role by any means, but our numbers are growing and we are starting to become accepted by a society that is slow to change its parenting paradigms.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to sharing my passion for writing with you all once again!

It's great

This is the first article from you I have read and I'm already a fan. I came across it when I checked in the lifestyle category. I like writing in this area too. Please add me as a friend and read my articles too. Thanks and may God bless.

Jdubhub! I didn't even notice you were gone...

Not really!  Congrats on two years -- Joe  +1

Your Codpiece Pictures Are Missing

I'm miffed.  You haven't published anything AND the photos you added to my SERIOUS article Make Your Own Codpiece to Go With the Nipple Tassels We Told You How To Make Earlier have gone.  I particularly needed the one of W Bush the day he gave his premptive victory speech...

PMed you - hope all's well

Jdubhub! WELCOME BACK!

And, thank you for the help you have given me for almost 2-years.  You are one of my most-treasured writers here on Xomba.  Welcome back, my friend!

I am working up to posting

I am working up to posting more articles soon--Jeremy, I know I owe a Featured Article, too. :) I have been spending more time each day reading the excellent articles you guys have posted and have started leaving comments. I am getting back into the energy flow of being a daily participant here once again.

We missed you too

We missed you too. and glad you are back.  With the new changes of Xomba, being busy during the summer, having major problems going on, and being stuck with slower internet service, we haven't been in touch with our Xomba friends as much, but we really have missed you, and our other Xomba friends.  We haven't been writing nearly as much, but we're still here, and I'm pretty sure for the long haul.  Anyway, welcome back!   James and Sherry Grimes (Grimesss)

Hey You're Back!

People were wondering? Some thought we scared you off with our over zealous political comments. I said no, you were just on a breather!  I was right! I think you will be great in Family & Home! You will offer a unique perspective.

I just saw a Oprah show which featured Stay at Home dads. Not by choice like yourself, but because the wife was the only one who could find a job.  Apparently unlike past recessions in America the women are going back to work first! I find this is true in my own personal job hunting adventures.

Anyway the men are having a hard time "adjusting" to their children, and the new job. You can help! Speaking of Jobs  & Careers I too will be a new feature writer in that category.

Writing well is hard work, and sometimes we all need a mental vacation! Good luck in your future endeavor with Xomba.

Welcome back!

The Dance of Freedom Helps...

My daughter is off to Uni on 26th September.  She started Nursery when she was 2 and that was bad enough... I uderstand what you're going through jdubhub but I have a partial solution at least - THE DANCE OF FREEDOM!  Its the dance everyone should do when they're suddenly without responsibility or with a great deal less.  It's not a pretty dance - there are no formal steps - it's very much freestyle and must be (should it ever be perfomed in public WHICH IT SHOULD NOT) ridiculous.  I based mine on the moves performed by New Zealand's All Blacks rugby team to intimidate their opponents before a game - a real crowd pleaser, mixed with a bit of the Military Two Step, a Polka and a dozy doe...

here's the deal mythman et alia, glad you asked

I was pretty obsessed the first half of the year. I had made the rash decision to do my late mother’s final tax return as well as my own instead of hiring a tax preparer, and since they were both complicated for boring reasons I won’t go into, and I’m dyslexic when it comes to money matters anyway, it was quite the hair-yanking experience. When I finally put it all together for the IRS in April I included a letter explaining that I was an idiot so I may have made some stupid mistakes, and that if I hadn’t figured them out right, please don’t send me to prison, just let me know and I’d send them a barrel of money if necessary. Well, something like that, anyway. Then I settled into my padded cell to scream obscenities and pull out the remaining strands of my hair.

I got a response from them in due order, and it turned out that I had slightly underestimated my own taxes but my mother got a refund, which was a happy outcome, as far as I’m concerned. They even helpfully explained which items I hadn’t calculated correctly, those sweeties. Amazing what a little groveling does. And next year there’ll be just one tax return to worry about and the complications will be all mine. Oh joy. So I can relax. Sort of.

What I’ve learned from all this is that taxes suck. I’m no teabagger, but something has to be done to simplify our massively obscure income tax code. As a liberal, I accept the need for taxes, but it’s so difficult for a layperson to understand the regulations and which forms to use when, and then do the higher math once you figure all that out. Of course, if they made it too simple, H&R Block and the rest of those blood suckers would be out of business, and we can’t have that.

So anyway, that’s my excuse for being the big bad grouch I was, back then. Now I’ve returned to the lovable mid-size version of grouch I normally am! Happy days are here again.
