That is 'the meaning of life'—aptly stated, as the definitions of 'It,' 'you,' 'want,' 'hurt' and 'her' are left wide-open (maybe not for people watching the film as a 'sequence of events'-story, but definitely for those of us watching it as 'a metaphor for ... stuff-and-things).
For those of us watching 'the story,' 'it' is the 'ghost'-portion of Chris Nielsen's after-life; 'you' is Chris Nielsen himself; 'want' is the plan in Chris's "heart" (the part of his brain that controls desires); 'hurt' is Chris's "wanting to be wanted by Annie (Annabella Sciorra's character)"—who is the 'her.'
For those of us watching 'the metaphor,' 'it' is "life" (whatever one makes that out to be at the time); 'you' is each of us; 'want' is "expecting destiny"; 'hurt' (the vis "need to be needed"; and 'her' is the "purpose in life" we each choose ...
